Just bought an 06 330i for the wife which has nav and was horrified to find the dealer wants to charge me £200 for an 08 disc, what a rip off.
Do you have to do this each year then? and is there a cheaper way to update it

Cheers

They are a right rip-off. There are two releases a year as well, so if you really want to be on top of things then that's £400 per year.

I was well impressed when my 07 plate came with the 08-02 disc!

Why not tell them you want it included with the car? Demand it! All they can do is say no...

How out of date is it? Roads don't change THAT much - my 06-01 disc got me about with no issues whatsoever for 2 years (although I did downloads the 07-01 from a torrent site and use that for a while!)

There's always eBay:

2009.1 is now out as well.

I thought there was a £99 upgrade if you handed the old one back in??

Exactly - just download a torrent of the version you want.

Trouble with that is the newer ones require you to write a dual-layer DVD... I can't remember why, but I either couldn't be bothered or didn't have the right software to do that.
