After selling the family hack we needed to buy a slightly larger car, as my 840 is hardly spacious. Wandered round a few dealers yesterday and decided to buy a 147 1.9 Diesel 57 reg. Apparently was £18400.00 new as has leather and spokey 17" alloy thingies. Mileage is 10000 but all in all looks superb. Looking forward to collecting on Thursday. Please don't tell me I've made a huge mistake!

What you bought a dinky alfa 147 because your volvo was too small! apart from that minor effort, a good choice my man! Enjoy it, alfas are not the badly built bits of crap they were 10 years ago. It'll match an a3 for reliability on a bad day, yet with infinitely more style and fun.

Good cars, and that's a decent engine too (I'm assuming the 16v mjet).

Every halfwit who thinks they know about cars will tell you unreliable it'll be, probably followed by a story about the latest trip to the dealer with their Golf.

Good choice!

If anything the 147 was put together a lot better than the 156!

I had a 147 1.6 TS it was the best car I have ever owned in terms of reliability. NEVER ever broke. Not even a bulb. Was such a nice car. Would think about one as a second car if I had the money. Very good choice my man! thumbup

As above, we had no real problems with our '06 147, and in fact we've just replaced it with a new 147 Ducati Corse.

yes Picked it up on Saturday from Piccadilly in Knaresborough.

These are from before we bought it, when it was still clean. smile

Fairly impressed so far, although coming back up the motorway in the freezing fog on Saturday wasn't the best introduction. A few people have said it looks tacky or tarty, and I think they're probably right, but in a good way...

There's no doubt that the 147/156/GT are getting on a bit now compared to the current cars, but when we get a chance to drive it properly I think the 170bhp and the Q2 should make it a fun little car, if not the most sophisticated thing in the world.

That is a lovely 147, it's a bit Abarth Punto-esque. Very nice indeed.

I'm loving that 147. What engine does it have?
On Alfas in general I bought a 52 plate interior facelift 156 just over a month ago and the whole car is in unbelievable condition for one that has covered 110,000 miles. The interior is every bit as good conditon wise as our (same age and slightly more miles A3) but knocks it into a cocked hat for style. The Rosso paintwork was given a machine polish before I bought it and gleams like new and the teledials look gorgeous. Despite the 156 being a fairly common site on our roads I'm surprised at the number of heads it turns. Its a lovely agile steer too. The cost of this wonderful machine? £1800biggrin Its certainly keeping me happy whilst I refresh my Elise's suspension.

It's the 1.9 diesel (hence the 'Ducati' badging confused) - 170bhp, 330Nm of torque, and Q2 is Alfa's mechanical LSD. smile
