Retirement gift ideas required! (for a cricket mad chap)

A chap in my department retires at the end of the year and we're currently trying to think of what to get him as a retirement gift. This will be something bought from a collection around the company, rather than any kind of official golden goodbye etc.

He's cricket mad so my initial thought was to get hold of some test match tickets - where is the best place for these?

Any other ideas?

Test match tickets are hard to get hold of, you go into a lottery and are awarded tickets from a draw if it is a big series.

What about a club membership?

You could get him Graham's book.
A gallon of bleach assuming he bowls or did.
A used jock strap dipped in ammonia signed by whoever.

Does he follow a particular county team? Not sure of your budget, but there are usually different kinds of membership that will vary in price and may suit your budget - if he's retiring he'd have plenty of time to make use of it.

If you're feeling generous, England are touring the Caribbean in 2009!

Depending on budget there is loads of good memorabilia on ebay.

Good items (e.g. Ashes winners signed shirt) from reputable sources are usually about £200.

Get him a custom made bat. You can go down the oval to the place that makes the top notch ones, they measure you up, you pick out your willow, go for lunch, a tour of the ground, then return to pick up your bat at the end of the day!

Not cheap, but a great day out and ncie memory. About £170 IIRC

Depends who are touring- its Australia next year so it'll be difficult.

Hmmm. Cardiff is already a complete sell out -and that merely involves sitting under an umbrella for a day and staring at a vast expanse of wet grass.

Well it turns out he's a Lancashire fan but as he now lives in Staffordshire he doesnt go to see them very often. When he goes to watch cricket "live" at the moment he goes to see Warwickshire simply because it is the most convenient for him to get to.

As a small gift you can still buy a game we used to play as kids called Owzat. Basically two metal six sided thingies with various numbers stamped on relating to scores hit...Wont go on as its too early!

Does anyone know of a good place where we can buy a signed England cricket shirt? Preferably one that is nicely presented in a frame etc.
