Where do you go for Christmas dinner?

Always a dilemma for me. For nearly 7 consecutive years we have been to the (future) in-laws for Christmas lunch having been to my parents for Christmas breakfast.

It works well, but I think my Mum would like us to go there for a change. Problem is she always cooks something leftfield and my OH prefers the traditional Turkey etc.

Anyone else have this problem at Christmas?

Strangely you have missed out the "Stay at home" option, which is what I always do.

This year we are having lunch at home; me, wifey and baby gti. then to the in-laws for dinner, then i shall be working overnight then split boxing day between the two families.

My parents absolutely hate Xmas, mostly due to the fact my rather evil grandmother comes to stay for a few days, so I usually like to escape to a happier place! If I'm at home I'll slob out, have a fry-up instead of a turkey dinner and sit in front of the TV watching countless DVD's. However this year I'm off to the (future)in-laws for a few days - Should be good!

Being a recently single ex-pat, this is now a tricky question. Home is too damn far, and spending it alone on the couch was looming large and ugly.

Thankfully, one of my best mates has donated his family so I am looking forward to eating too much and watching re-runs of classic movies all day. Same as always.

So spare a thought for those people who don't have any of the options above.

Usually at mum's, but she is coming to ours with her lickle doggy for the first time, the mrs will cook & I'll be on the sauce, thrashing the boy at the latest X-Box fire-fest.

Might have to carve something though, I dunno.

Last year we spent Christmas at home. Just the two of us.

This year we have been invited to spend Christmas with my parents, arriving Christmas Eve and leaving Boxing Day.

For next Christmas we have already made the decision that we will be going away for a few days and spending Christmas at a nice country house hotel.

All of the above avoids us ever falling into the trap of 'routine' at Christmas time. Expectations along the lines of "well, you spent Christmas with 'X' relative last year, so it is our turn this year" have never been an issue for us, and I fully intend for it to stay that way.

Usually at home with the in-laws attending occasionally. Not this year, though. After spending the day at either Sunshine or Lake Louise we'll be having dinner back at Banff Springs.

What about people who pop to the pub at christmas but spend the majority of time elsewhere?
