Two TiTT3 revelations
Discussion
My hood could do with a little TLC in places and so it was with huge surprise that I stayed warm and dry throughout the entirity of Thunder In The Tunnels (it also makes it all the more puzzling how the garage who serviced it recently managed to fill it with water...)
What's more it provided me with a bit of a yardstick for the straight line go. According to an impromptu, but rather enthusiastic encounter along The Embankment it's marginally quicker than a Mk5 Golf Gti. I know these things are a little innacurate, particularly in the wet, but Autocar claim 6.7 seconds to 60mph for the Golf, so allowing for a slight traction advantage it seems TVR's claim of 6.8 for the S3 was perfectly realistic.
The final revelation was how just difficult it is to perform a U-turn the fun way when you have an open diff. Doh.

I always assumed that, firstly, the figures would have been a little optimistic to start with and, secondly, fifteen years down the line they'd have slipped a little, but all seems very healthy indeed. In a straight line at least, I'm fairly sure my Focus could lose it on a B-road given some decent tyres, but the S is so much more fun, as a couple of greasy London roundabouts also illustrated.
The hood was the real surprise though. I've encountered plenty of hoods that look like they should seal and don't, so it was all the more surprising to see one which looks like it should leak and then stays dry!
Didn't even have any visibility problems with the long bonnet at junctions... It's practically an every day car.
I'd just like a slightly quicker rack and a stiffer front anti-roll bar please Santa
