Ok, it is time to service my Elise. Paul Matty seems to be the logical choice for me as I think it is my local Lotus specialist (I live in Worcester). My dilema is that they are only open on weedays during work hours. Just wondering whether anyone knows whether there will be a courtesy car option at all or if there are any other recomendations. Really need to get it done in the next fourtnight and don't have any days holiday or anything.

hmm tricky one.

I would have said Horizon in Cradley, as they had the use of a couple of old bangers, but sadly they have recently gone.

I have just used Paul Matty and I was very impressed. Depending on the type of service, could you just not wait for it, I'm sure they could turn it around inside the morning for you.

It's a B type. They said about 4-5 hours. I am tempted to ask my boss if he would mind me taking a lap top and writing a press release or two while I wait, it's either that or he gives me a lift there and back. Thanks for the response.

Assume they need the car for 4-5 hours, not that the service will take that long? It's pretty much an A plus spark plugs.

I think that's the answer, if you get there early and your sure nothing else needs doing I bet you'll be back in work for 1.

Like I said, I was very impressed with them and i'm not sure why I never used them before.

Nick Whales round the corner used to have a reduced service price for older cars (as otherwise no-one would use them) and is open on sat morning. Depends how old yours is and the cost comparison to Matty's I suppose.
Personally I'd use it as an excuse to get out of doing the shopping and go for a drive on a Saturday morning to somewhere that was open then.

Ding, i have my service man doing the service "as per schedule" and i changed the spark plugs myself. I resent paying a dealer for £100 to supply and fit plugs.

I bought my car from Nick Whale, but they dropped Lotus and are now a Ferrari dealership. Although they said they would continue to do servicing for Lotus initially, I'm not sure that they are still doing it?

This doesn't help with your weekday only issue, but I have switched to Paul Matty and have been impressed with the customer service and attention to detail - I am currently waiting for an exhaust for them to fit.

The car is a 2000 S1. It's last service was done at Nick Whale but when I bought it I checked them out and they have gone stupidly expensive now they are Ferrari. I have heard nothing but praise about Paul Matty and they aren't too expensive, especially considering their experiance. Guess I will just have to suck up to the boss.

On a slight aside, I was guilty of being a fool yesterday and managed to knock my number plate off, It did not damage to the body - the screws snapped. What kind of price is a replacement bracket likely to be? And what are the legalities untill I have sorted it? There doesn't seem to be a good place to tie it.

I have got 3 heavy duty velcro discs holding it on, that way if you do hit something it just comes off without damaging the clam.

If you are willing to travel, TopGear Automotive in Wolverhampton www.topgearautomotive.co.uk, do alot of Lotus work, I use them for my TVR but always see alot of Lotus there whenever I drop in. They are very good and will do a service on a Saturday or will meet you out of hours and provide you with a courtesy car. I know they have a good reputation in the Midlands

Yeah, I got my S2 111S C-service done at Topgear a month or so ago, they were really good and quite flexible with pick-up, drop-off times, free use of a lovely, if a little musty, Vauxhall Astra while they were tinkering with mine. Seemed pretty good to me, not far off M5.

Will check out Topgear tomorrow then. Wolves isn't much further from where I work than Paul Matty.

Damien, where did you get the velcro discs from? Is it something that I can probably get sorted when I take it in or is it something I would have to order?

Really appreciating all the help.

David,
Check out these:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...

Mine were on there when i bought the car, i have not got the number plate plynth either so they are just stuck onto the clam. Very good though, i hit a rabbit a few feeks ago and it just pulls at the velcro without damaging the clam.
