Have taken my car up to uni this year and I'm really missing taking it for a good thrash down a country B-Road. I know where they all are near my home but I haven't got a clue in Preston. Any suggestions?

If you head to Jct 3 M65 there are are few country roads around there. I tend to go for either the B5256 (not that long but nice and twisty) or the A675 (which is quite a long route but nice and fast). If you try the A675 take it easy at first as there are a LOT of accidents along there - I've seen lots of fast cars upside down and backwards through walls down there (and unfortunately it leads to Bolton ). There are also lots of narrower lanes leading off these roads which are worth exploring.

Re: Rivington Pike. I think he means the Belmont road over the top of the hill and back down to Rivington Great road, but he's right about the bikers, we love that road .

Just explore some of those lanes around that area, down near the reservoirs and near Rivvie Barn (great for a bit of lunch/tea stop btw) as theres some ace little runs up there.

Beware of plod on busy weekends, they are there to catch the bikers but aren't fussy where speeding is concerned.

For the hard of map reading: Its the white road

Unfortunately ladies and/or gentlemen, the proliferation of both general numptitia & plodian tax raising freedom inhibitors in and around the above locales has reduced the hoonage quotient immeasurably.

One of my favourite proving zones for years, it now only yields the full wonders of it's potential if you're prepared to rise with the larks in summer.

Even then, it is becoming increasingly essential to scout the route just in case the hateful Talivans are out to alienate a few early worms.

I'm sick of saying this but if you're a Prestonite, then for the love of Vespasian, get 'yo ass' to Bowland's inspirational Trough.

Paradise is but a stone's throw away!

I can confirm these road are great I live just down the road.

Also there is a few good ones (not many but a few) on the way to Leyland (grrrr nasty sh*thole) and maybe around Chorley but for the life of me can not remember the road numbers.
