Depends whether its an LSD (Powerlok). If so, you need specific LSD oil - Motul and Silkolene to name 2 do a suitable SAE 90. Takes about 2.5 pints - fill to to the bottom of the filler hole with the car level (or the diff out!).

Many (most?) have a limited slip differential. These require a different type of gear oil then standard (standard stuff will knacker the diff!). Go to a jag-dealer and get 2 litres (think it is 1.5 litres you need) as the diff is the same on old XJ and XJS models with LSD, or get this elsewhere for this type of jag diff.

How can you tell whether you have LSD or not?

LSD diff oil is probably safe in a standard diff, so use that.

I use the Castrol stuff for LSD's.

You can tell by jacking up both rear wheels and rotating one by hand, if the other tends to go in the same direction it's an LSD. Else it's a knackered LSD or a normal diff.

Thanks!

I need to get the arse up in the air anyway to restore some sort of handbrake operation. I shall carry out this test!

will do over xmas, will post a pic of it just before I re-fit the back end.
ordered a set of A frame bolts of Steve heath and they don’t fit so be warned. it seems almost impossible to get a good deal of the TVR lot on the web for parts. so would suggest you source the lot yourself, its a lot cheaper

It would have been nice of you to have contacted me first to see if I could have solved the problem rather than complaining via a public forum...

I have sold a lot of the A frame bolt kits and this is the first time that I have heard of them not fitting.

In what way don't they fit? Do you need a different diameter or length or what?

PS I see you have changed the bushes. Just a thought: are you sure you have the right ones? If they are not the right ones, then the bolts will not fit.

Oops.

Steve is a VERY well respected guy on here, and in TVR circles generally. wink

No offence meant Steve, and your comment taken on board.
Just find it frustrating that in my quest to restore my old wedge I have be given poor advise and stitched up by many that say they are experts. No mark on your character or advise meant, I was just trying to give others my insight and to let them know not to trust all advise.

Thanks for that.
I suspect that working on the car in the recent cold weather hasn't helped either... smile

Email me with the problems and I'll try and help you.

Not very nice to slate SH on here - suggest an apology is in order. I've done the same job as you using SH products as part of the rebuild and have nothing but 100% satisfaction and praise for him and his products. I got loads of advice and support, I did that by picking up the phone and asking him...do that and you might find your problems aren't as bad as hey seem......

Reading mac123yre's posts I think his frustrations were aimed at other specialists, though his wording wasn't all that clear.
It's fair to say that we all agree Steve is a good egg. I've had issues but am 100% happy with the after sales service, support and advice and that's what buys my repeat business more than anything.
How many other specialists/suppliers post regularly here?

Sorry, but I read it as a direct slur on Steve Heath. ("be warned").

Naming and shaming is a no-no on the board, regardless as to whether it happens to be a Wedge guru. smile
