That is really going to be worth waiting for, hopefull it will be out before Episode 3 that is rumored to be (probarbly is) in development.
ETA: looking on you tube, Opposing Force and Blue Shift source are also in development, It will be great having the entire Half Life series using the new gfx engine

Been looking forward to this since it was announced (which was shortly after HL2 was released). Can't wait to give it a go but still no signs of it being finished soon.
Here is the website for anybody else that's interested http://www.blackmesasource.com/

Ditto, when they released Half Life: Source as a freebie with HL:2 I thought that was going to be Half Life done in the engine from 2, but it looked identical to the first one which was most disappointing. Here is the website for anybody else that's interested http://www.blackmesasource.com/
So when they announced this shortly after I got quite excited, but then totally forgot about it as it's been ages since then.
Kudos to the mod team.
I've read about this project before and check up on it every now and then. But WOW that trailer is superb and I can't wait to play it. I think these guys are missing a trick by not making this a commercial release on Steam via Valve. If Gunman Chronicles can get a release, so can this.
Er... what? A perfect remake of Half Life... using the Half Life 2 engine?
Why?
Why would anyone want to re-play a 10 year old game that they've already finished and has been bettered many times over - and more importantly WHY would some weird, crazy folk take months/years to build it?
Especially when it's already been ported to the HL2 engine by the developers! Just "not well enough".
People confuse me.

Why does anyone want to watch old movies on Blu-Ray? Why?

Are you telling me if someone knocked up a perfect replica of Goldeneye or the original Perfect Dark with modern graphics and updated controls you wouldn't be the slightest bit interested?

Nope. Well, interested but prepared to be very disapppointed.Perfect Dark was s
te, for a start. (IMO)Goldeneye (Oldenguy as we called it) was of course brilliant at the time, but if you played it now I think you'd be shocked... endless identical corridors, brainless AI, tiny and linear levels... a lot has changed since 1997! We've been spoilt by GTA4, COD4, GOW, Half Life and so on.
Obviously most of them owe a debt of gratitude to Rare for the inspiration and pioneering approach of GoldenEye..
All that said.... playing Licence to Kill on Bunker against 3 mates and slapping them in the chops for an instant kill was gaming gold.

Much like if you'd spent years watching a grainy VHS copy of Blade Runner and then had your eyes opened again to the majesty of it in Blu-Ray high definition.
I know what you're getting at bit the film analogy - my point with the HL mod was more that someone has sat and recreated the models, levels and environments, timings and scriptings, props etc etc etc... in their own time, for free.
And the result is a 10 year old game, that looks like a 3 year old game! (After all, the Source engine is dated now - the biggest criticism about Valve's new game Left 4 Dead seems to be that it looks outdated)
It just seems like far too much effort.
Still, their effort not mine so I don't know why I am complaining.
Re: AI... I have a feeling that the AI in halflife wasn't nearly as special as we remember it was - it was just that they HAD some! Which was a complete shock. Beofre that, most AI's could be written in a few lines of BASIC
10 Run at player
20 Shoot at player
30 GOTO 10
At least in halflife they could do a couple of other things like throw a grenade, flank you, and duck!
The first time you fought a team of marines was a proper shock though - crap, what happened there? I don't even know who killed me!

Remember this mod is on the Source engine so will be using HL2 AI which can be fantastic.
I did start playing HL1 again as I have it on steam from years ago and it's still good to play. Graphics are of course dated and it still has the annoying jumping sections which hopefully they'll leave out in BMS.
