Ignition Control Box?
Discussion
I'm having problems with mine too! Mine keeps turning the ignition on by itself! I've even had the red stop button pressed in and the ignition lights keep flashing on as it trys to turn it on again! But twice today it wouldn't turn the ignition on at all until i'd unplugged and plugged it back in again. And yes one of those times was while filling up at a petrol station. And having a broken door/windows control box dosent help matters either! :-( I'm thinking its an iffy relay inside the box as it all seems perfectly dry etc. Problems problems problems!

TVR Power can get these boxes repaired within two weeks or so.I take it that the symptom is "press the black button and nothing happens with the starter". This can be the infamous immobiliser problem where the immobiliser for some reason prevents the ignition module from communicating with the solenoid. The relay in the box will click on when the button is pushed - like it should but insufficient voltage to energise the solenoid appears out of the immobiliser. Worth doing a search of the archives as this has come up many times.

Yes, i have to keep pressing the black button many times and eventually it will bring in the solenoid. But i have tapped the box in the boot and it has then fired straight away so assumed this box was the fault. I have assumed that there is a relay that is the problem. As a 17 year old Golf GTi driver (now 30), I used to save pennies any way I could to spend on more petrol.
My Golf (same fusebox as the Cerb - hence the possible relavence) had a habit of eating fuel pump relays at any sign of damp.
Rather than purchasing replacements at £20-£25 a pop, I used to pop the cover, clean the contacts & re-assemble.
Might be worth a go as it costs nothing & would confirm your thoughts on a relay?
(I think the relay positions are in the handbook ?)

It dose say that these are exchange units so i'm assuming that they are all recon'd? Its an odd problem with it turning the ignition on by itself. I wonder if anyone would be willing to try my Ignition Control Box for a day or so to prove to me that its this thats at fault? It should show itself up almost straight away if its this thats causing the problem? Have you managed to sort yours out yet Brummie? If it is this thats at fault i may try and source a replacement relay and try and fix it myself, if its the relay thats at fault?Bit the bullet and bought another control box myself. Also bought the windows and door lock one i needed (what the hell its Christmas). Ignition still turning itself on by itself. This problem has now been compounded by the fuel pump also turning itself on! Flattened the battery the other day. I did wonder why but as soon as i charged it and put it back on away went the fuel pump. After a few hours of testing everything i could think of relay and wiring wise i decided to have a look for the ECU. The car has been parked facing downhill as i thought this would discourage water ingress through the bulkhead etc. This gentlemen, is what i found......
The ECU was sat just above the puddle with the plug submerged! Lucky the ECU was bone dry inside but the connections needed a lot of cleaning up! So no need for the new control box then. Shame the door lock one didn't work either. Hey ho, that's life for ya! It wont be going back down there i can assure you!
