Just been reading about the Queen's speech tomorrow, and I noticed this section:

Exactly how allowing the use of something that is inherently discriminatory promoting equality? I don't want an MP purely because she is a woman. I want someone who is going to be good at their job. I don't care if they are male or female.

They aren't being hacked to death in the UK though. IN the UK, positive discrimination is here, and is in use, as shown by this bill regarding 'racial equality'... As such ticking that box isn't going to do him any favours, whereas it will help the others.

It was a tongue in cheek comment. There seems to be a common approach amongst a certain type of person to make out that my group is the most disadvantaged and unfortunate in the history of the world.

When in reality that is complete bullocks.

How is it any different to accepted practice in most businesses to employ the son of someone in your old boys network?

Basically that the sky is not falling, there will still be jobs, the old boys network will still exist. It is not the end of civilisation as we know it.

It's happened in the US, and the only people complaining are late middle aged middle management types who have only risen to the middle through being a smarmy suck up. Good riddance to 'em.

No matter what is proposed there will be one group in society who is disadvantaged/advantaged more than another. Be it officially or unofficially.

Again, nobody said there was. However, mollycoddling sections of society is not going to bring that about. What we need is a society based on merit, not skin colour, or ethnicity, or who you happen to fk, or whether you happen to get around on crutches, or wheels. By bringing in legislation that in a nutshell will demand quotas, (otherwise how on earth is it monitored), you are placing higher value on one section, over another, for those very same reasons it is pretending to try to stop. That sort of stuff is going to happen, thats life. But with everyone banging on about equality and equal opportunities and then drawing up an all-women shortlist to try and achieve that goal, i do hope the irony isnt lost. What if there was a man who was far morse suited to particular role than anyone else but couldnt even apply? All in the name of preventing discrimination - what a laughable state of affairs. These PC maniacs are just going to tie themselves in knots eventually.
