This idea that there is less than 2 million unemployed always seemed crazy to me. It's another example of spin where the figures are manipulated to the extent that they are meaningless. It's the same with inflation figures - the government just change the criteria to make the numbers say what they want them to say.

The frightening thing is how are all these benefits going to be paid? The credit crunch is leading to a collapse in tax revenues to the Treasury. Stamp Duty on property transfer has virtually vanished, CGT will be nugatory as everything is down in value, corporation tax receipts will be much lower as any decent finance director will be writing off assets and generally f
king with his balance sheet. Oh and of course The Badger's cut VAT too. So guess who's gonna pay? The middle income earners through increased income tax/NI, not that there'll be many of them left...
Darling's poppycock spend/borrow predictions in the pre-budget report are laughably way way below what will be required without cutting public services. FWIW I would love to see Labour win the next election just to stop the public sector Unions bleating about "Tory Cuts".
We simply cannot afford to go on like this.
