Every year its the same, the missus and her family hassle me (in the nicest possible way, of course) to come up with suggestions for presents for me for Christmas, and every year I comprehensively fail to come up with anything meaningful and end up with socks, cheap tools (why do they do that??), and assorted random tat the frequently doesn't get unpacked until we need the Christmas bags the follow year.

Not this time round - I think I've pulled off something of a coup.

Under my careful instruction, my loving other half is going to get Steve Heath's full suspension rebuild bundle (inc. a full set of bolts, poly-bushes all round and his ARB drop-links front and back), then part out the various bits of it to members of her family to give me (lying about the prices in some cases to avoid my father-in-law giving it the "it cost how much for a little piece of plastic???").

The best bit about my cunning ruse is that nobody can complain about me disappearing into the garage for several subsequent weekends in January to fit said bits, since I'll just be enjoying the lovely and generous presents that her family gave me.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Fantastic idea, I'll have to do this for myself - I just can't bring myself to wear another pair of "The worlds best Dad, Son, Brother, Son-in-law" socks again!

How about getting the wife the presents then she can dissapear into the garage to do the work while you sit with your feet up haveing a beer and watching the footie?? With of course the odd check to ensure the job is being done correctly?? That could be why I am divorced??????

Which - using your wife as cheap labour, or the checking up on her? I could probably get away with the former, but its the latter which would probably lead to castration.

Considering I'm now the proud owner of itallyellows race car bushes in respective metalwork in a pile on the floor of my garage.

Also considering a ten tonne press did little more than bend one of the bushes rather than remove it last night.

I would say you're going to have a good deal of fun over the next few weeks trying to sort them.

Can I suggest Sir make sure there is one person of said family left to buy this

Getting the bushes out of my wishbones is probably going to be a hatefull job too. Someone on here designed a press for getting them out so I might get an engineering firm to knock one up for me.

Just my opinion, but I have a ten tonne press, and that wasn't pushing them out as if they had welded to the underlying metal. The minute the bush starts to buckle you don't have a clean angle to apply the press to.

Even a harded steel thread of a very fine pitch would not push ten tonne, but might come in handy for putting the new ones in?

If the saw has trouble I'm going to mill these out. Going to take a blinking long time if it gets that far though frown

My other half has already sent a service kit and a few other bits and bob's off to Santa! But what a brilliant idea getting the rest of the family involved! Maybe i could extend this to friends also and end up with an LS package? Hmmmmmmm. :-)
