Booking a ferry.. take 2..
Discussion
After Speedferries demise, it seemed tricky to get a cheap ferry which didn't involve getting up at silly o'clock and driving halfway across Europe. Settled on staying up late instead - getting the 1800 LD Lines ferry from Dover to Dieppe which worked out at a rather nice £60 return and several hundred miles less to drive. The ferry back is the 1230 on Monday. Gotta be worth a look for any people not wanting to drive from as far as Dunkerque.
You know, you're quite right.. Though Newhaven is no issue for me really, LD Lines are advertising both a Dover-Dieppe crossing and a Newhaven-Dieppe crossing. Perhaps a new route for next year, or perhaps they're muppets. I've emailed them for clarification.

Well, had an email back from LD Lines.. or rather customer services at their sister company Transmanche Ferries:
"The Dover Dieppe line is not opening until February 2009 which is probably why it does not feature in the list of routes."
So all's good. There's a new Dover-Dieppe route which is still doing crossings dead cheap
