Car not on the road at the moment

As per previous posts, i'm having some clutch problems just now meaning the Tuscan is sitting under a cover in my drive with a trickle charger on not moving. To be fair, in this weather it wouldn't be moving even if it was working.

Question is, we all know the speed 6 works better and is less temperamental when it's used regularly. Now the car starts first turn of key so should I start it every couple of weeks or so and keep the revs up for a while just to keep the engine turning over or will that do more harm than good?

It won't be getting fixed till around February/March time as i'm getting MOT/Service/repair done at the same time.

Anybody got any views.

I have the same concerns...although my car will run,but I don't wish to take it out very much. From what I gather the issue comes from the top of the engine getting dry without running. From what people say if you leave it idling without driving it, then it runs rich and thins the oil, so idling isn't good, better to drive it. So I try to take mine out every couple of weeks for 10 miles or so... If you can't drive it not sure which of the options is worse/better:-

i) Start it leave it idling to warm up and splash the oil around, don't see any point reving it.

or
ii) Leave it unstarted till March and settle for one start when the top of the engine will be dry .

Assuming it will start!!!!!

If it's only for 12 weeks or so, I would not bother starting it without driving it. If you do, you will only get condensation in the exhaust etc which will not help when it's sitting still. Try and park it up after a good drive so everything is hot.

actually 12 weeks under a cover outside in this weather, I would be more worried about your brake disks rusting up and seizing.

It you do start it, don't leave it to idle, give it some gentle revs as it warms up to simulate driving. The speed 6 is not too good at getting oil to the top of the engine at idle.

I'm gonna go down this route I think. I've already started it once since it's been sat up, been just over a month now and it started no bother. Revved it up and down to about 2000, 2200 rpm for a few minutes. No bad sounds or anything.

I know leaving it sitting outside, cover or not, isn't the best but I have no garage at my house and as I can't get any gears, can't move it to someplace that does. Could be a jack up and clean the discs job every month or so I think.

Assuming you have one, I'd look at the details of your breakdown recovery. I know that mine will move my car to where ever I want to get it fixed. Years ago my Mrs had a policy that allowed my Dax to be taken from my house to a garage of my choice on a low loader simply because she said she was a passenger in the car. They shipped it 70 miles to a specialist to get it fixed

Maybe you could find a friendly garage that would store it for you?

I would hate to leave my P&J out in this weather especially without driving it from time to time
