And I've never done it before, or any other proper cooking i'm ashamed to say, but in a moment of sheer romanticism/weakness/utter stupidity I offered to do it, for the 4 of us............and her parents...........and my parents........eek and now I'm already regretting it.At the time it seemed like a good idea, because A- She's always wanted me to cook her a meal,B-We go to on hols Boxing day so she'll be fretting with the packing anyway,C-It really should be my turn and let her enjoy the kiddie bits on Xmas day,D-I'd had some wine,E- I'm an idiot, and my cooking knowledge doesn't extend past choc-ice and chips.
So ladies and gents, fire away with your Xmas dinner tips, shortcuts, golden rules, don't do's and never evers please

Don't keep opening the oven door, everything will take twice as long to cook if you keep opening the door.

Write down timings and try to stick to them.

Remember to keep well hydrated whilst cooking, wine is best.

Don't be afraid to chase people out of the kitchen with a large kitchen knife if they start to linger and get in your way.

Rest the roast covered in foil, it'll stay warm for up to an hour.

Roast your bird upside down, only turn it over to crisp off the skin, all the juices will run through the breast and keep it moist.

there must be some company that does it for you then delivers it 24th or 25th. Just hide it, bring a different bit out every half an hour or so so it looks like you are doing it yourself.

Don't cook turkey, nasty dry meat, get a nice goose instead.

We're going to get a good lamb joint this year, it's the meat we all like the best.

What size is the turkey? You may need to get up early. Otherwise not too difficult (seen it done many times). Get someone else to prepare the sprouts, that'll save you a few minutes.

Do a trial run this weekend...... get hold of Delias christmas book (about as simple as it gets.)

Start getting your self organised. Know what you've got to cook, and how much of it. Know what time you've got to put everything in to cook so that it all comes out at the same time.
Remember the bird shoudl really rest for a bit before carving.

Don't be afraid to ask your mrs for help.

Unless you like turkey, that is. Don't get lamb, far too greasy

Your mum and her mum won't be able to resist offering to help too, so let them!

Cooking a roast is not exactly difficult anyway.

yes

I never know what the fuss is about. Mrs Tee has a breakdown when it's her turn to cook.

I cook my Turkey the night before with bacon on the top.

While Turkey is cooking, peel my veg and place in air-tights tubs.

When Turkey is cooked, take off bacon and place on sandwich for Christmas Eve butty and beer by the fire.

The next day, 30 mins to cook veg, stuffing and pigs in blanket - job done.

Do a simple soup or pate for starter and job's a good un.

Don't get stressed. Keep everybody out of the kitchen, make sure you have a TV, chair and beer with you and chill out.

it's a piece of piss!!!!!!

Agree - prep is everything. Get your timings sorted for each bit of meat and whatever you get, make sure it's from a good butcher not a chav shed(eg tesco), order stuff now.

Buy some posh nibbles from M&S or suchlike to cook for mid morning and have these sent around to keep the natives from rioting due to hunger.
