buying a 360...
Discussion
Okay, so it seems at least once a year i get a hankering for a Ferrari... what can i say, im at that point again...
However, with the credit crunch goodness, i have noticed you can pick up 360's for under £40k, and that is tempting.
Of course, the first question is, are they significantly better than the 355's? prices aren't that different, and the 360's strike me as being more usable? (i live in an area with lots of speed bumps)
What are the key points to look out for? hidden expenses, things that can go wrong? It will be a second car, so tucked up in the garage a lot, is that a problem?
Also, what about mileage, i've seen a really cheap spider, but its got 80k verses the 30-40k of most others - is that likely to be worrying? where are the expensive services?
Also, manual vs F1 box? not having driven either, is there a difference? Is there a way to go?
any hints/tips?

Do a search lots of threads giving advice on things to look out for.
If you intend to use it daily all year round the 360 is better choice it also has more ground clearance.
If you are after F1 in the 360 make it a car after 2002 as software update prior to this F1 was not very good and in F355 cr*p.
355's are better looking than standard 360's will also hold money better in the long term as not as many made.

True, you can get a 360 for under £40k, but is it a good one? there's a lot of s
te out there being pedalled - even by dealers.....in fact the local "official" dealer helped me sell mine, as they chap who bought it went to see one they were punting - steering s
te, gearbox graunchy, clutch stiff, ball-joints rattling, sills rusting - "one of the best in the UK sir" the dealer was heard to proclaim. In fact by the time I sold mine I had 3 buyers lined up as they had all done the rounds of looking for a cheap 360 and viewing the amount of dross on the market had decided that the few extra £££ for a good one was a wise investment.Don't believe the hype - you may get lucky with a sub-£40k 360, but you could also get stung very very badly....choose wisely...because the margins are slimmer the dealers are NOT putting the prep money or effort in they used to....

how bad are 355's over speed bumps?
it'd be a weekend toy, so not a huge thing, but i have at least 2 i need to navigate to get onto any road..
If you go (crawl) over the speed bumps at an angle you should clear (if they are made within the law you should get over without doing this).it'd be a weekend toy, so not a huge thing, but i have at least 2 i need to navigate to get onto any road..
It is because the car has a long nose and it is fairly low the 360 has a little more clearence (apart from the CS as it is lowered)

I find the best technique is slow down, into first gear, then feet off all the pedals and just let the tick over of the engine pull you over.

anyone got any official production figures for 355 vs 360? should give you an idea of where the residuals will be in 10 years time - my guess is within 2-3 years that 360's will be below similar condition 355's.

Jonny numbers per Ferrari UK are;Jonny
F355 GTS Total 2577 (RHD 434)
F355 GTB 4871 (RHD 496)
F355 Spider 3717 (RHD 454)
Total cars 11165 (RHD 1384)
360 Modena Total 8479 (RHD 923)
360 CS 852 (RHD 116)
360 Spider 5972 (RHD 963)
Total cars 15503 (RHD 2002)
I am surprised the number of 360 Spiders is higher than Modena's but 360's in RHD more than double F355 when the total production is just over a 1/3 more!

I has a 355 GTS. Coming out of a number of TVRs, I was disappointed in the lack of torque. I know it's not the be all and end all, but it was motivation enough to change it for a 360.
Depends if you want old school/classic, or something a bit more modern. The 360 with Tubi and decat was sublime though.
Personally, I'd want until the end of Jan/Feb as I'm predicting the bottom of the curve isn;t here yet.

Just try finding a good 2000 360 manual in rosso corsa with creme leather and all the desirable extras.
Loads of F1s though.
I suppose that answers the question. What is best, manual or F1.
