Direct Vetting

Quick question here. Job I'm currently applying for requires Direct Vetting (it's with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office).

Anybody had this done, what's it like etc. I'm already a long term civil servant (yes, I know). Does this make a difference?

Its v v personal and only way to approach it is to be 100% honest even if its incredibly embarrassing for you...

It's Developed Vetting, not Direct Vetting.

Who is your sponsor? Normally its your line manager who sponsors your application and they should have all the info you need.

Essentially its a very in depth personal interview with a number of background checks thrown for good measure too. Do you have access to any military publications at the FCO? The whole process is laid out in a particular publication.

ETA - the only thing you need to be worried about is being 100% honest in the paperwork and the interview.

The process is quite painless if you are up front and honest, if a little time consuming with all the form filling and the interview.

The MoD link is pretty good apart from the timescale - 95 days is pretty optimistic for even the most straightforward of applications.

They will want to interview a couple of your referees in person as well as yourself.
