It seems the prices of the now defunct 400D have tumbled low enough tp put them within range of the new 1000D.
Thinking of a present for my sister (already has an EOS film camera with lenses) which would you go for ?
The 400D with 18-55 lens for £327

or the 1000D with body only for £245

Since their specs are so clsoe one wonders whether the 100D is in fact a 400D with the newer processor bolted on.

cheers
Chris

Well the 400D is the better camera, only thing the 1000D has better is live view.

1000D is a camera with the 400D sensor, the af from the 350D, live view from the 450d. Its also SUCKY at shooting fast in RAW, 1.5fps.

Though the 400D kit lens isnt all that, the 1000D IS kit lens is Good, but you've found one without??

Remember her old EF lenses will be made for full frame cameras not the croped dslr's , they'll work but focal lengths will be(effectivly) longer.
