So heres the story, look at my car, the rear tyre seems a bit down, pop down the garage (at the bottom of my drive basically), try to put some air in - nothing, cant even get a reading, I try to push a key in the valve, doesnt even release air, doesnt look that bad so I head for the dealership (about 3 miles away), half way there the tyre pressure monitor starts telling me theres a problem (weatherman telling me its raining?) - I plow on slowly and pull up at the dealership. Thinking there was a problem with the tyre valve, I asked a mechanic to have a look as its under warauntee, he then said simply I had a slow punture.

Car goes round to the workshop and up onto the ramp, im sitting in the showroom, next thing the mechanic wheels the tyre out and said "Tyre is knackered, you have a screw right thru it and the inner walls are damaged", "fair enough, put a new tyre on" I replied- they didnt have them in stock, so he said it would be around an hour and half (after already being there for 40 minutes). I said I need to be somewhere so is there a car I can borrow for an hour, there was a very abrupt no (probably due to the fact that I am 22 and was in track suit bottoms and a Black Hoody), I said I had to be somewhere so I left the car there and got picked up.

Went back to collect the car, the tyre cost me £264.50 (19" P-Zero 285/30). Not sure about tyre prices (will be checking with my usual tyre supplier tommorow), but that seemed terribly high to me. Anyone give me example prices?

Went to ASDA tonight, showed my missus my £264.50 purchase when I realised the remains of a sticker left on the wheel, tried to scratch it off with my finger nail but it was stuck well to the wheel, as I tried to remove the sticker remains- I notice theres a mark on my wheel the size of a drawing pin head where some numb nut mechanic has put my wheel face down when it was off the car causing damage.

All in all, Its cost me £264.50 and 2 hours off work SO FAR, plus I had to pull another man out from one of our jobs to pick me up, to top it off now I have the inconvenience of having a marked alloy?? Im fuming to say the least - straight on the phone to the STEALERSHIP 2m thats for sure.

They will probably want to see the damage back down there, then send me to a mutual colleague to do the repairs and they will foot the bill, but seriously am I entitled to compensation? They charge me £50+ an hour for a mechanic, and this damaged wheel is going to cost me at least a few hours so do I have a leg to stand on saying they have cost me X amount of hours from work??

Seriously though I think its disguisting Mechanics dealing with such cars can treat other peoples possessions with such disrepect, If I went to some shabby back street tyre fitter, fair enough, but these guys are the same people who would service your £100k+ New car. Bitterly disapointed with the service, being looked at like a car thief by snobby sales men wasnt the nicest feeling ever either lol.

This thought crossed my mind, but tbh, the mark on the wheel doesnt look ne thing like a "Kerbing" mark at all, its a very odd shape, in fact its simular in shape and size to a drawing pin head. The only way you would get this kind of mark is putting it down on its "face" or intentionally with a file of some sort?

I hope they dont try and pull that one though, i know it was mint, and some bar steward mechanic down there knows it was mint.

I will be taking it further than SG Swansea if they deny it, just out of principle...Its only going to cost £20-£30 to put right but its all the hassle that goes with it! Having to pay the extra £30, and take extra hours off work is going to be a right kick in the teeth as well.

Basically, when the mark is sorted out, it would have cost me £300 for a tyre & I would have lost god knows how many hours from work banghead

On the plus side the price for the tyre does not seem too bad when compared to the PH tyre finder site.

I'm not sure what your problem is here - from your description the tyre sounds like a normal puncture, not vandalism. As for the price of the tyre - my SL takes 285/35?/18s and from BlackCircles with the PH discount they're between 230 and 250 each, so your price from Mercedes sounds very reasonable indeed given the bigger size.

Put it this way if they can do my tyres for that kind of price then I'll be getting them there.
