Footage of trackdays
Discussion
Was at my first trackday last week, and didn't really get any photos as I was obviously driving the car, and mentioned this to a mate who told me he was at one a few weeks earlier (Oulton Park again) where they had a load of photographers round the track, who clubbed together at the end of the day and were selling CD's of their shots. Good idea, which got me thinking...
I think I remember going to Alton Towers or somewhere where, if you wanted footage of your day, you purchased some sort of electronic gizmo that you wore round your wrist. The camera's detected or tagged the footage when you were around or whatever, and then it was all compiled onto a DVD for collection at the end of the day (I think).
So would it be feasible for MSV, who I think own Oulton, to install a setup of camera's that cover the circuit (only one for each bend I reckon) and do something similar? They'd be static of course, but I'm sure they could be set to get some pretty nice shots! Reckon they'd have a lot of takers for something like this, and it could also be utilised as a security thing if needed.
Just a thought!

Interesting idea.
Could be done. All cameras recording onto HDD all the time. Your tag registers when you are in each cameras shot (done by induction loops for entry and exit from shot). When you finish the day it processes your tags data against the recorded video and slots it all together.
Wonder how much it would cost though....

Windy,
Most trackdays have resident photographers who take pics during the day and make them available to view & purchase by mid-afternoon. Most also put them up on a website so you can view and buy after the event. They can't cover every corner but it's not just a question on snapping your car, good trackday photography is a skill, an extra skill beyond just being a good photographer. The better ones will make your car look like it is actually moving, with blurred wheels and background which to do, they must pan at the speed of your car with certain camera settings.
It's possible there was a company working on your day, if so it will be mentioned on the trackday organisers site.
