Spent yesterday removing the bushes from a Cerb. I thought I'd comment.

I think they get a bit stuck with age smile. Most of the bushes were taking about four tonne to move, and then two tonne to push through.

All bushes came out though in one piece.

I didn't need to cut anything in the end, but would say that a proper floor or bench mounted press with the above power is must have.

The only bush I didn't remove was in the bottom of the rear wheel bearing holder. Odd looking triple bush thing. Does anyone have a picture of what a removed one looks like at both ends?

Nah, you don't need anything that professional, you can do it with a home made bush puller yes

If you can put four tonne though a spanner, or threaded stud, or six tonne in the case of the control arms, you are a much much stronger man than me.

Afternoon weakling hehe

I knocked up a special tool to do the job, so it's kinda cheating but I still only using hand tools smile

No idea what bushes you're describing here Julian. all the rear hubs have the same bush as the suspension arms ..

should've got mike to take a photo of it. Maybe being fooled by the amount of crud about but it looked like three concentric metal rings with rubber between each one. Wasn't sure which ring to apply the pressure to.

These are the bushes at the bottom of the rear uprights where they bolt to the rear lower wishbones.

Definatly not a normal bush.

These ones right?

With the exception of the large drag strut bushes, there are only two types of bush on the front and rear suspension. The long (C0200) ones, and the fewer short (D0104) ones. The ones in the picture are the C0200's.
You apply the force on the outer metal casing to push out.

Those could be done in situ. I haven't got a pic but that's how I did my lower ones without removing the hub carrier. I just extended the puller with a longer piece of HTS threaded bar and pushed each bush inwards.

take pics of yours Mike .. ive never seen anything other than those fitted in the pic above. if you have something else in there it must be a one-off and the first one i'd have seen in 12 years that's different. would be good to see pics and work out exactly what theyve fitted in place of the std bushes.

Its a relatively old car to have an upgraded bush, did you say 1996 car mike?

Maybe my eyes were failing at the end of a long day, but I'm sure there were three concentric metal rings. Possibly the outer ring was part of the hub casting, a tube welded to the hub to take the bush, and we were seeing it end on.

I'll have a closer look if mike brings it back to sort it, but he may decide to leave it alone.

Meanwhile you have to marvel at the guys driving ability, did well for a guy with a non functional brake caliper hehe

Yep I agree. Mike called me about this and I couldn't find any thing like it. I looked through my photo library and they are all the same as you say. However it is a TVR so who knows what happened!

Hi here are the images. As you can see there are three metal rings on the outer side and the bush is smaller on the inside??

Can't say I know what they are then from those pics. Does anyone know the source of the bushes TVR used? I gave a couple of my old ones to two motor factors, and they couldn't source origin.

I'm wondering if the upright has been rebushed and that explains the additional metal sleeve. It would be worth comparing diameters with the replacements before doing anything.

I'd agree.

Check the dimensions.

It may have been an early version or it may have been modified by someone in the past.

The other slightly wierd thing I remember about that evening, was that the inside and outside of the bush didn't look the same.

Either way I wouldn't replace it until the experts on here have identified a replacement source. smile

inside looks standard, but the outside has three rings. why the three rings on the outside?

Easy thing would just be to push the inside standard looking thing and wait to see what happened to the outside I guess
