Vredestein Tyres, Sportrac or Quatrac?
Discussion
At the moment my tyres are all well within the legal limits, the only problem being they are a complete pick n mix of brands, all 4 are different and this was quite noticable during the recent snowy weather here in east Lancashire.
So i've decided to to get a full set of 4 tyres, I was going to get 2 but Santa has granted me another 2 for xmas, exciting stuff!
I've been looking at Vredestein as they seem good tyres for the money.
They are for a Saab GM900 2.0 N/A so its not as if I need very high performance tyres.
Originally I was going to go for the Sportrac 3 as they have had rave reviews from Autoexpress as well as the public.
But then I saw the Quatrac 3, which sells itself as an 'all season tyre', and have a half summer, half winter type tread, as well as meeting the requirements for a winter tyre where they are required by law.
Maybe its just the recent weather thats got me thinking the Sportracs, which are more summer orientated, might not be too good in the lower temperatures. But on the other hand, with the all season tyres, they might wear very quickly when summer comes back around.
The weather round here is usually a lot of rain, so this might favour the sportracs as they perform very well in the rain, but I also do a lot of nightime driving on (sometimes untreated roads) rural roads where temps are often below 5 deg C.
Anyone had good experiences with the Sportracs or with the Quatracs?
Quatrac3
Sportrac3
Cheers.

I've got Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's on the XJR and am very impressed with them. I haven't tried the ranges you mention, but they do tend to score very well in the magazine comparison tests.
As ever, this is a good time to remind people of the PH Tyre Review wiki

I've had Sportrac 3's on the Battlecruiser throughout this year and I'm thoroughly impressed.
When they first went on, I wasn't so sure that I had made the right choice as they seemed to "waft" aboutin the bends, but it turns out it was just because they were new and the blocks were moving about.
When they bedded in, they were excellent with VERY good levels of grip in both wet, dry and torrential conditions
Trust me when I say the Battlecruiser and the Sportracs have had a LOT of hard driving, hoonary, high speed stuff, motorway jaunts, countryside morning attack missions etc and they've been fantastic!
Just pissed off that some shrapnel from a burnt car on the M1 blew one of them to bits....another £75 to pay out
Oh, my mate (trickie dickie on here) had the Sportrac 2's on his TVR 350i Tasmin and never had nothing, but praise for them

Thank you! From your reply, I presume they work fine in summer as well.
Though I'd be interested in any view of the new Goodyear Optigrip too:

I have Vredestein Quadtrac 3s (225-45-17)on my 2003 Audi TT roadster when I bought it used. The tires appeared new then.
The cornering is outstanding. The wet, dry, and snow tractions is very good for 10,000 miles or so. Then the belt noise started and I have driven on them for 12,000 miles now. I have one tire develop bubbles in the side wall. The replacement for that tire is extremely noisy, as well as 2 others. The now noise drowns out upgraded sound system on the TT.
I cannot wait for these tires to be replaced.

As the OP of this thread I thought I'll chip in as my Sportrac 3 tyres, on the front at least, are about to expire in the next few months, there's about 3mm tread left on the fronts and about 5mm on the rears. I bought them around 18 months ago, shortly after the date of the OP funnily enough!
They started off on my Saab NG900 2.0, I racked up about 10k miles on them, then bought a Saab 9000 2.3 Turbo and had the tyres swapped onto the new car but putting the rears onto the front and vice versa.
Since then I have covered another 12k miles and I imagine the tyres will last me another couple of thousand miles.
The life of the tyres I am very happy with being on a high powered car, heavy car, my style of driving isn't too kind on them (2nd gear, WOT when the turbo kicks in is always fun!) but then again I don't go haring around corners either. The traction is great too, I imagine I will replace the tyres with the same again, although the Toyo T1 R is an option within the same price bracket.
The noise issue was mentioned in the tests, but for me is the least important factor when considering a tyre, the Saab does a pretty good job of insulating you from the outside world anyway!
