So, in most live-in relationships (married/living together) where you both earn, who pays for the Christmas pressies? Do you share the costs 50/50 or each buy/pay for certain pressies?

We have always bought the presents for our own side (family and pre-relationship friends) and then the joint friend stuff comes from our joint account which Mrs B&B doesn't contribute to directly (it is restocked from the family business when needed). she works in the business and gets a set amount a month as 'her money' which she uses only for pressies and girlie things a sthe joint account pays all the bills, holidays, car etc. I don't have an account of my own, just the joint account so in effect my pressies come from the joint acount and so do the 'joint' presents.

This year Mrs B&b thinks it a bit unfair that all my pressies come from the joint account but she has to use 'her' money to buy her sides gifts.

She is in the lounge sulking.

Can't comment for myself as I'm not married but with my parents my mum pays for all the birthday, xmas pressies etc for family because her money from her job is technically her own to do with as she pleases and she doesn't actually need to work anyway.

My dad pays for everything else such as the cars, the house, bills etc. Obviously he pays for presents for my mum.

They are also virtually one of the only couples I know who don't have a joint bank account and never have. Have always said that it prevents so many arguments.

OT a bit but why do women go mental at christmas. Why do they NEED to buy people who we never speak to stuff? why do they get so fking excited about it?

And then moan that they have to do everything when they enjoy doing it

Surely the only answer would be for you to have your own account and to have some money paid into it in the same way as she does and then you pay for your side through your new account. Then you would both be the same. But since all the money comes from the same place it's monumentally pointless.

£60? Sweet Lord!!!

You spend &7-800 on presents? Just go down to poundland and buy some tat from there, if anyone says anything just tell them it's the thought that counts.

Thanks to my actions last year, I am exempt from Christmas shopping, so therefore can't be expected to pay for anything.

Last year she nagged for ages for me to take her to the Christmas fair (some stalls on the street in Newcastle selling tat). She was convinced we would get all the presents for everyone that day. I didn't. Cue us walking about for a few hours, me moaning at her and her trying to buy pointless overpriced guff that no-one would want anyway.

Long story short we ended up coming away with 6 sausages from a local farm shop, and no presents. They were excellent sausages.

Since then I'm 'not allowed' to go shopping with her. winkbowtie

Actually yeah - ok hands up I have used that in a round about way, but I know they would get something! If my husband did the christmas pressies they would all get money - job done! If only it was that easy!!!
