My brother has just gone and bought himself an 85 Chevy Camaro IROC() which has been upgraded to a 350. Along with the deal he has also inherited two 305s which suffer from low oil pressure (obviously in need of a major rebuild). While I don't expect to have any problems for quite some time (fingers crossed) with my American Speed engine I do plan on upgrading it to EFI ASAP and generally tinker with it. Zero to 4 SBCs in 6 months!

Does anyone have any recommendations for good care/maintenance/modify/rebuild SB Chevy books?

HP Books has most everything you could want, "how to rebuilt your small block chevy"
"How to hot rod your small block chevy"
"TUned port injection etc." They must have a web site, they're sold through Summit and Jegs too.

Or if in the UK you can get them from Real Steal.

I have 4 books to recommend.
Haynes Techbook Chevrolet engine overhaul manual. ISBN 1 85010 762 9
Good for general how to put it together type info.

HP books 'How to rebuild your small-block chevy' By David Vizard ISBN 1-55788-029-8.
Again good for general how to put it together type info.

'How to build max performance chevy small blocks on a budget!' David Vizard ISBN 1-884089-34-8.
Highly rated book for performance builds without going over the top.

'John Lingenfelter on modifying small-block chevy engines' ISBN 1-55788-238-X
Again highly rated for performance builds.

Also check out this forum. They are very helpful and treat newbies very well www.chevytalk.org/threads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB64

See if you can find a copy of a program called 'Desktop Dyno' into which you put all the different specs of your proposed engine build and it will give a fair indication of how it will perform.

These books, the forum and DD2000 are the tools I have used to build my engine.

I used to read David Vizards articles in Max Power (when it was a 'proper' mag) when I was a kid!

A good writer and taught me so much more than school ever did!
