Hi. Has anyone come up against the problem that Ford outlets no longer supply batteries with square terminal posts? I've just bought a new Motorcraft round post battery and square post adaptor set for my XR4x4 2.9. However, the old positive terminal is fitted with an adaptor plate into which are screwed three sets of red wires in addition to the starter lead that attaches directly to the terminal. This adaptor plate can not be accommodated by the new round post battery with its square post adaptor. Any suggestions?

I got a square terminal one last week from my local auto factors.

Messing around with terminal wiring didnt look like much fun tbh when there was the option of either for the same price

Thanks for the reply Andy - on the strength of that I've taken the incorrect Motorcraft battery back to my local Ford garage, and have managed to buy the correct square post battery from Halfords (#HB097), but I've still been turned over for the cost of the adaptor set that Ford sold me! I had it confirmed that Ford no longer support cars fitted with the old square post batteries.

its another way for ford to screw more money out of people surely the square terminal are safer than the round as they have a nut and bolt that goes through the + & - !

I would say the rounds are safer as they are quicker to get off if there is a bad short and explosion is imminent.
