Pics from Sweet Lamb, Day 1. Missed Hirvonens roll though, I was at the top of the hill in the afternoon and didn't even know it had happened frown

A few more on Flickr

C + C welcome, these are straight from the camera.

Interesting shots.

It always amazes me how close the 'officials' can and do get to the track. I take it they were not using the artificial water splash next to the sheds at the bottom of the hill?

I wouldn't provide life insurance for those with media bibs it has to be said, esp. looking at where Miko went off compared to my 3rd pic.

They were using the watersplash, it was just before the crest in my pic hence the steam + spray.

Cheers,

S.

AH! Ok, I misinterpreted the perspective and assumed that the splash was a bit further on. Assumed the steam/spray was simply a large puddle.

So if Hirvonen went off just after that ... good grief! Half way up the bank might be OK but the guys who were probably standing at the side of the track to get the splash head on might have been energised somewhat. If they kept the cameras rolling there ought to be some good shots ..

Those are cracking shots. What lens were you using?

Thanks!

The first two are taken with my trusty £70 Tamrom 55-200 f4-5.6. I've been really pleased with this lens esp. at the price! The last is with my Canon EF 100-300 f4.5-5.6 USM.

Cheers,

Steve

Really? Cool! If you see him, congratulate him! He put in a great performance and got a lot of support from the crowds. People were letting air horns off for him in Walters Arena. I've been reading his blog and it's a real eye opener.

Thanks! It seemed to get good reviews and I thought what the heck, for £70 I don't mind it getting wet and muddy. It's been my main lens for rallies since I got it.

If you want to see EXIF, Flickr actually shows it - go to Flickr click a pic and then look for "more properties" in the menu on the right hand side. The "Lens type" entry seems to be gibberish but the rest is OK. If the lens length is 55-200 it's the Tamron. The 18-55 is the Canon kit lens and the 100-300 is the Canon AF lens.

A couple more pics from today. Was a great rally despite the stage cancellations. Lots of fights in all the classes and the Loeb/Latvala battle was fantastic. Good to see Loeb being pushed for a change smile

Anyone else got any pics? My hit rate is still quite poor, I only get decent photos from car 10 onwards which is a shame. I'm always still getting my eye in when the top drivers go by.

I love the fact that you can get among the cars and drivers in this sport. I followed Tony Jardine over the A4069 mountain road last night (which is a great twisty road). He wasn't rushing at all but I still had to work to keep up! Awesome just seeing how smooth he was.

Great pics from both of you smile

There's a lot of people knocking the WRC and there will be a lot more discussion to come about the stage cancellations but speaking for myself I had a great time.

Massive committment from a lot of the drivers and plenty of thrills and spills. The sunshine of the last two days didn't hurt either smile
