Audi V10 Engine
Discussion
As I have a bit of time of my hands at the moment, I though I might start having a look round for some bits for an engine conversion.
I like the idea on the V10 and the Audi looks like less work to get it to fit over the BMW.
But does anyone have any information on the engine it self.
What year is better, engine block numbers bla bla bla.
I have looked on some of the V10 build sites but they don't go in to that much detail
Do I just look for a scrapped car, rip the engine out and then sell the rest on?
What car, what year, does it matter about EU cars etc

Hi Peter,
The problem is in the motor managment. the anti-theaft divices on either the M5 or S8 are so agressive that it's got to be considered impossible to run these engine outside of the car using it's own computer. There's bound to be a proximity chip somewhere that will lock up the system. And Audi/BMW are not going to help you to solve this.
(I'm very curious to how autobionics are going to solve this..)
So, in the case of the Audi this means you can't use the FSI since no generic M.M. can manage it.
Therfore you have to convert it to normal injection like I did, but this is quite pricy. The throtlle bodies alone run up to 2500eur. injector 1000, and so on.
The truth is that the BMW might be the beter choice, it has normal injection, but under the air box are 10 thotlle bodies ready to be used.
And it seams, you can even use the exhaust headers (also expensive)
Sourcing these engines is no problem, van Kronenburg has plenty of them lying around(BMW & Audi), they (or Ulteamcars)can also help with mating it to the gearbox.

Sorry - I'm not stalking you Maurits... honest!
I notice in the message above you mention being able to use the OEM exhaust headers for the M3 engine. It implies that you couldn't use the VAG one's for the S8 engine... have I picked that up correctly? If so, why couldn't you use the VAG one's for the S8 engine?
The headers wheren't included with our engine, and we couldn't source any cheaply. So, in thuth we just didn't try them. It would be a thight fit anyway, and as I remeber van Kronenburg also thaught it wouldn't fit.
And let's be honest, although expensive, the spagheti's look fantastic, and should make some extra power...
From what i see from autobionics the M5 headers should fit.
