Elias Person 'I DO NOT ACCEPT ANY TRADES!'

gordon baccus 'I DO NOT ACCEPT ANY TRADES! '

Both bottom end of the market, both in essex, both as dodgy as a room full of ferrets.

The first one has been untaxed for 6 months.

How do you tell if a PH advertiser is a trader?

Ferrets aren't as dodgy as a bloke called elias person. Shame he can't spell Alias properly. Or would that be too obvious?

Basically if they don't give a phone number, then it's generally a scam.

There's no excuse about not wanting your number on the internet as PH give the free option (to the seller) of fonesafe.

See in the top right corner of the advert, there is a link 'Report to Administrator'?

Click that, there is now a classifieds chap who will look into it.

Funny you should say that. Happened to me as well, the sort of people I would NOT want to meet and be involved in a deal amounting to tens of thousands of pounds. Not all 'asian' but wideboys.

I told one 'I'd rather burn it than sell it to you for that price'

His response:-

'I can burn it for you for 250 quid mate, do a proper job innit'

Hi Folks,
This is my first post on PH but I have been lurking for ages and am a great fan of the site. I am actually advertising my P&J for sale at the moment and I too have received some very strange enquiries about my car including one from some chaps that wanted to tuen up at my house at midnight and pay me ~ £20K in cash.

I refused this as it sounds as dodgy as hell. However, all the other enquiries I have had have been interesting in paying cash - is this normal or should big cash payments always be suspect?

I have told the latest person that I would only undertake the transaction in a bank with the cashier taking and counting the payment into my account. I would have expected people to use CHAPS or something.

Cash is generally a safe method of payment, especially so if the transaction is carried out at a bank straight into your account. It is definitely a safer option than bankers drafts or cheques, which can be 'bounced' long after they have cleared into your account.

If in doubt though, trust your gut instincts and be wary of anyone who has extremely specific requirements about payment methods

maybe the vendors are in a cash only business and do not like to use the banks ?
