Hi.... after looking about for a while at different Jags, I have just purchased myself a Sapphire Blue 3.2 Sport with (i am assuming) oatmeal leather.

It is a 1995 car with 104,000 miles on the clock and has a full and complete service history (Jaguar and specialist)and the previous owner had the car for the last 8 years....

Now the car is not mint, but it is definitely not rough!! and I only paid £1150 for her, with just over 7 months MOT and 9 months Tax, so I am happy about that.....

I plan to have both sides of the car re-painted (between the bumper liner and the swage line).

Have new coach lines fitted.

Re-connolise one of the side bolsters on the drivers seat.

Fit some 18" XJR Penta wheels that I have just bought.

I have a couple of questions though.....
Firstly... What is the best tyre size to go for? I was thinking 245/40/18 but am not sure.
Secondly.....Does anyone know a good contact in the West Sussex area for the re-connolising, and how much can I expect this to cost?

Thanks, any advice, thoughts or comments are greatly welcomed

Richard.

Richard,

Try http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Car_Interiors.htm for your leather repair. They are based in Newcastle, but I sent them an enquiry when I wanted my XJ sports seats cleaning and repairing and they put me onto the thier local agent, as I am no where near Newcatle. Hopefully they will have someone local to you.

For the record the guy they put me onto in Bolton was called leather Fix UK and charged me £160 for both front seats deep cleaned and re-coloured along with all the front door inserts and centre consol. Brilliant job and it really made the interior look good again.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link..... I will definitely give them a call and see if they can guide me in the right direction

So far, most people that have seen the car since I spent some serious time valeting her, have said they would not bother with the hassle of re-canalising, as the wear is not excessive, but I figure, for the cost and for the fact that I can the interior looking like new, then I will still go ahead with the re-conditioning.

Talking of valeting.... after a day really going to town on the car, including cutting the paintwork, several layers of polish and a sealant, and most importantly, all new coach lines. I am happy that there is no need at all to have the paintwork that I was going to have done smile

The wheels two, need nothing, after a very small touch up on one wheel, and a good coat of tyre dressing on all four tyres, i find myself inclined to stick with the factory wheels for the time being (especially as there are 'as new' Pirelli P6000's on all for corners!

All in all, I am very happy, even had a friends dad offer me £2200 for the car on Sunday (which I declined)

Unfortunately I am between digital cameras at the moment, but I have taken some pics on my phone (which don’t do the car justice).....

Thanks for the comments....smile

The car had a blow coming from the exhaust, so, I took it to a garage that my brother manages last night, and luckily it turned out to just be a clamp (where the down pipe meets the centre section of the exhaust) and whilst I was there I had the coolant changed ready for Christmas and the New Year....

All for an £8.00 bottle of wine and a Cadburys Whisper bar smile

Also I am awaiting the arrival of some little metal/enamel 'Union Jacks' (the type found on the back of late MG cars) these are going to go on the B-pillars where you would normally find the '3.2 Sport' badges.

That joint on the exhaust (where the down pipes meet the main section) can crack. It is possible to get it welded up, they just need to cut off a small amount of the outer sound shielding to get at it.

I notice that you or the PO have had the wheels re-done.
When they left the factory the lacquer wasn't too good. It was a known problem, when Steve Copley at Autocar ran an X300 back when they were new, this was one of the points he discussed with Jaguar at the end of the long term test.
Anyway, when they left the factory the dimples in the wheel were painted to look like grey anodized ally.
Does anyone know a company that re-furbishes wheels that can redo the painting. The people I've talked to can't redo it. I'd love to have my wheels tarted up again at some point but I'd like to keep the original pattern.
