Would you ever spend £15,000 on a watch?

My dad has been on the lookout for a new Rolex for a while now. Today a local Jewler phoned and told him they had a new Rolex in stock, so he went to have a look at it. He loved it. It was exactly what he wanted.
Then he asked the price...

Maybe he should try Watch Auctions.

www.fellows.co.uk have regular watch auctions with Rolex's of various types regularly cropping up.

There are some real bargins, I remember seeing a mint Gold Pres with full (non rolex fitted) diamonds go for 4 or 5 Gs not too long ago. Plus all normal VAT and auction stuff.

That was a £30K watch!

I can imagine that the numbers going to auction will start to rise and the price fall as a result in the not too distant future.

Any authentic Rolex, given a full dealership service and polish, will be returned to 100% bling immediately!

People spend far more on a car that's worth half that 5 minutes after they buy it.

A Rolex isn't something I'd buy as an investment, but I have a SS Submariner and it's one of the only things I own that I can buy for £x, get daily usage out of it for many, many years, pay a relatively small amount to have it brought back to "as new" condition should it need it, and then sell it for more than I'd have if I'd simply put the cash in the bank for a few years - Rolex take care of that for me by jacking up new prices every year.

Not a chance. Even if i had the money. Where could you where it without stting yourself incase you scratch it. Although im aware that nothing compared to some of the watches Massa was wearing after grand prix' this season.

No. There is an upper limit in terms of cost vs quality and I think it's somewhere considerably lower than that.

The above auction is at New Bond Street - December 17.

Timed for the Christmas present market. Best way to get a better bargain is speak to the auctioneer directly after the sale and hope to pick up an unsold item for less than the minimum reserve. Bit of a gamble that approach but you can get lucky. If the item you want is new enough you can get a great watch at a fraction of the RRP. Keep buyer's premium in mind when considering final price.

SS RoIex's have sapphire crystal "glass". Scratchproof unless you bash into a diamond.
