Test drove a 360 Modena, F1 gearbox with standard exhaust....I was so excited about finally get into one and driving with a view to buying, but I found it a bit dissapointing (which was massively unexpected).

Might be because it was fairly busy around London where I was driving, or might be that the regular exhaust just didn't sound like I wanted (I want that Ferrari wail)...or it might just be that it wasn't that exciting...can't work it out...

Probably not the place to test drive one. If you'd been out on the slightly damp roads up here, a decent first drive of a 360 would be anything but boring.

Might be worth finding another location to have a decent test drive before making a decision? Oh and it needs to involve a tunnel.

Which part of the rev range did you find dull, below 4000 with the solenoid valves closed, midrange or 8000 rpm on the sport setting? Did you get it out of London? Sports exhausts improve matters greatly but there is something up here, in standard trim "dull" never sprang to mind. Please expand.

Both.

Test drive it where you can enjoy the performance and get the Capristo stage 2 exhaust.

I have driven many high performance cars. I drove a manual and F1 360 (both standard) back to back and they certainly werent dull.

Not likely to be terribly exciting in traffic.

What are you comparing it to?

I guess I'm comparing to my Lotus Elise, which felt more 'exciting'...dunno, hard to explain...just was expecting a bit more...I think a) better test drive location and b) insane exhaust will fix the problem...going to try a 355 as well for comparison.

Maybe it was one of those 406 replicas.

I have both 6MT 360(with Capristo stage 2, got to be the best sound) and Exige S.

The Exige is a better track car but the 360 is better on road. The main difference is that you know you are going fast in the Lotus but not in the 360. You just are going fast without trying.

Having driven a 360 spyder around silverstone GP for a few laps I found it very unimpressive. Still maintained the remote engine noise ala 355 that I drove a few years back.

Hmmm..... dull!!

Got to say after driving Porsches, Ferrari's and now a Lambo, the last thing I would call a 360 is dull!

I found my Modena light and nimble, feeling securely solid and dependable in the corners but pleasantly twitchy which keeps you totally dialed into the whole experience.... but didn't spank you like the 993 Porsche would if you over cooked it.

...... I sound like bloody Tiff Needell

Try another one in an environment where you can drive it faster than 10mph and you'll LOVE it.

I can sort of appreciate where you are coming from. An elise is fairly exploitable and chuckable, you can get some fun out of it without going daft. I think, performance wise, the Ferrari is just on a higher level and is less easy to exploit without veering towards being a wee bit irresponsible in the wrong environment.
