Premier Hotels.

Planning a 7-10 day tour of the UK for next year, starting in Cornwall. Regarding hotels I am having trouble deciding on which to use, with all the choice's to be made with regards to cost, differences, quality etc.
Was wondering whether just to book up with one of the National hotel chains such as Premier Hotels, as they have a hotel near everywhere we are planning to stay. Anybody know of any other national hotel chains or got expierence of Premier hotels from a holiday point of view?

Premier are OK - depends what you're looking for really. They offer decent travelling sales rep type overnight accommodation - bed, TV, shower etc. They're generally marginally better than a Travel Lodge.
The one thing I will say (which could apply anywhere) but these places seem to attract people who break into cars so if you're touring don't be tempted to leave stuff in the car overnight.

+1I always stay in the Premier Inn opposite Euston station in London. Cheap, clean, £8 all you can eat breakfast, parking. What's not to like.
I'd take a Premier Inn over any of the other budget chains, any day. Not exciting and not luxury, but consistent at least - a TV that works and has the freeview channels, clean, comfortable, no-frills accommodation and a reasonable breakfast in the morning. I travel around the UK a fair bit for work and generally don't look any further unless I fancy a change.
Although if I'm on holiday and touring around, I'll generally just see how I go and sort something out in the afternoon. It's rare you'll hit a poor hotel or B&B and even in high season there's always been somewhere decent available, even if it is a few miles down the road from where I wanted to be.

PremierInn are OK, for a cheapie.
If you know the dates you need them for now, then get it all booked up - many rooms are offered at discount rates this far in advance - we've just booked a post-Christmas bash in Birmingham and have got it down to £28 / room incl. breakfast.
The only other cheap alternatives are Etap and Holiday Inn Express. Just be careful and check that there's food available onsite if you book a HIE, though.

I use them a lot for work but not very holiday really. Nowhere to chill out apart from the room but apart from that etc. Nothing wrong with them, just make sure you get the room at the end of the corridor and not opposite the stairs etc.
Innkeeprs lodge is another. Travel lodge I avoid.

Have you tried the one at Towerbridge? or the other one in Southwark theres a pub down their called "The Thameside Inn". Does great meals, view of the thames and alcohol is hidden on reciept.
If price is a thing I'ld recommend using something like http://www.bedandbreakfastsguide.com
can see by the images what the places are like and should work out aconsiderable lot cheaper. But if in London yeah Premier Inn's is your best bet

I've never had dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast is top class.

Lots of nice places to eat quite close by, and if all else fails a Burger King!
We use travelodge for all our races, stay over the night before, have a few beers, shoot the breeze. The rooms are basic but clean, they have their parking and usually a little chef (ha) attached. Booked well in advance they cost £19. So if you're after a bargain then I'd go down that route.
Minor downside. In 10 stays we had 3 fire alarms. 2 of which were in the early hours of the morning. Great fun...

I keep getting emails for dinner bed & breakfast for £99 for one, and £150 ish for a couple.
I'd have a ring round and ask for similar.

HTH - far more "holiday" than a rep's paradise next door to a Beefeater...

the thing is - book a travelodge/prem inn/holiday inn express... and you'll know pretty much what your getting up and down the country. fairly basic accomodation, a bed, TV, shower room.. and might have to go to the restraunt accross the car park for your breakfast... no room service, but you may get the menus of the local takeaways that deliver
but a bit of research on the likes of Active hotels.com or laterooms and you could find decent B&Bs and premium hotels that are off loading spare rooms for not much (for example i stopped in a Holiday Inn next to the NEC for £50 - about half price - still felt ripped off tho)
