Bizarre Moderation

Re thread:http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=95&t=618867&nmt=My%20Website%20-%20Opinions
This thread was closed due to advertising?
The chap was clearly asking for feedback on his self-developed website.
This has been done countless times and is an aid to those developing websites as there are a large amount of skilled website designers and techies that post in the technical area.
I would ask those involved to rethink their actions. Asking for help in the technical area is just part of the community and it would be a shame to see an active part of the community become over-moderated.
Thanks.

The OP openly states that he is using the site as a showcase to get work.
Falls into the advertising bracket.
If that was the case, don't you think he would have posted it in the pie & piston rather than the IT section where it's not likely to be seen by anyone other than IT staff?Falls into the advertising bracket.
And the thread title clearly indicates he has posted it for feedback as many others have in the past.
The advertising bracket is a reasonable one but this clearly isn't about advertising.

Oh please, at best this is inconsistent moderation. There are literally dozens of identical threads throughout the site. Falls into the advertising bracket.
It is not possible for moderators to read every thread on this site.
If you go back and have a look at the chaps website, he has edited it in line with a lot of PH'ers comments.
I understand the advertising rule but I feel this had nothing to do with advertising. The website wasn't great when he asked for feedback, feedback was given and the site is now quite different.
I would ask the moderators to review the situation with a view to unlocking the thread.
The thread has nothing to do with me but I feel locking the thread was a mistake.
This is a shame because people have always sought feedback in the Computers section on their sites and it's been interesting to help them and watch them evolve into better sites.

Another vote for over-zealous moderation.
I don't dispute that moderation is a thankless task and that the rules are clear but the OP seemed to be a youngster trying to develop something and genuinely seeking some feedback.
No different to the chap with his piranha lounge website a couple of weeks back.

I agree 100%, the fact it was put in the IT section says it all really. As V8mate said it's a thankless task but at the same time it's a real shame if there is going to be a knee-jerk reaction every time someone hits the 'Report' button which I imagine happens a lot on here.I don't dispute that moderation is a thankless task and that the rules are clear but the OP seemed to be a youngster trying to develop something and genuinely seeking some feedback.
