Does anyone have any ideas on the total cost of a replacement drivers door (not just the skin), painting (silver)and fitting, at a main dealer?

Asking on behalf of a mate.

No, honest, I am.

Many thanks in advance,

That's exactly what I had guesstimated (finger in the air type).

I've googled and googled to try and find an actual price; but could not find any specific prices or quotes from other owners, etc, etc.

I think the door will be about £600 plus £400 paint and labour. Same as you, finger in air.

Found some prices on fabdirect for a door skin, window and window lift, all used that came to around £250

Still need interoir trim, speakers etc.

How long would it take to fit ? 3 hours

So probably not far out at around a grand. At least you get the VAT reduction. wink

I think he meant the inner metal part of the door plus skin, not the door card, speakers etc. I might be wrong though.

Basically a mate has reversed into a E46 Coupe.

Fortunately the only [visually apparant] damage is to the drivers door - both front rear wings are OK, as is the sill. Mates are is absolutely fine.

The door damage is too much to simply push back out and touch-up - therefore assuming a worst-case scenario of replacing the complete door.

Their excess is £350, so the question then becomes do they sort it themselves, or take the hit on their insurance.

At an assumed cost of about £1k, from a MD, then insurance is the best option. Of course - if was only £500 (for sake of argument), then it would probably be better to settle in full themselves (I assume).

I would guess it's about 20 hrs labour @ £27- £30 per hour, bearing in mind the whole side will be painted, plus parts and paint and sundries, and VAT, about a grand? wouldnt be suprised.

If someone reversed into your car, would you accept a 2nd hand door?

I wouldn't.

Exactly - nor would I if someone reversed into my E39.

Anyway - we'll see what happens - and I'll post up for future reference any related costs, etc.

The guy whose door it is wants it done 'proper like' - which I don't disagree with.

He's tried our local guy Den - but he can't do it for ages - hence going to the MD.

was about 1K (main dealer rates) to replace the rear passenger door m on my E36 about 4 years ago so a couple of grand makes sense for an E46 drivers as its much bigger etc,
