Cost of water - utter rip off

Right, so I use 100 cubic meters of water a year.

For the privilege Yorkshire Water charge me 900 quid a year.

So that's 9 quid a cubic meter.

I suspect that almost every other water company in England charges much less than this but you can't change your water supplier.

In my book that's unacceptable.

Maybe I'll take YW to the European Court of Human Rights and complain about not being able to shop around for a cheaper supplier.

If you overlook payment to Yorkhire Water, they hit hit you with a summons after a very short period...

With costs added, of around £50...

So they send a list of names, straight from their computer to another automated summons generator.

Wonder how much they're making from these "costs"...?

Just received a Summons for my mother's house, that has been unoccupied for two years, following her death.

Yorkshire Water has been jacking up charges for quite a while, supposedly to cover the cost of never ending upgrades to the supply and sewer systems.

Approx £1.20 then same again for sewage

100 cubic metres of water a year, thats 100,000 litres of water, fresh drinkable water. Try buying that in your local supermarket and seeing how much it costs?

BUT I think as above, I'm about £1 or so a cubic meter... But I think it's a rip-off that I'm charged for them to supply me with the water then I'm charged for them to remove it again..

So how are the water companies supposed to run the water treatment plants, if nobody wants to pay their water charges.

Here in Alderney we buy every drop of drinking water in bottles - around £3-£4 a day. Tap water is apparently safe to drink but it's very highly chlorinated and often as cloudy as milk.

I think mine was about £750, I use feck all (1 bed flat) but I can't have a meter. Daylight robbery. Thames "Leaks-a-lot" Water.

I think mine is around £540 a year in greater manchester (no meter) and we use a lot of water!

Meter = a thing that measures water usage
Metre = a unit of measurement.
