Problem With Ebay and Not The Normal One

Had car on ebay. Young lad comes today, we strike a deal but has to apply for bank loan in morning. So left car on ebay.

Someone from Germany with 0 feedback but who has emailed me a few times has hit buy it now.

What would you guys do?

Sell it to the first person that actually has the money. No dosh = no sale.

Viewing a car he's not in a position to commit to buying is a bit thin on the part of the first bloke.
If Klaus has hit "Buy It Now" surely he's done just that?
See who turns up with the reddies first, then decide. If Bank Loan Boy comes back great, if your German friend pays up sooner, great. Did the first bloke leave a deposit?

I just sold a motorbike to an Ebay chap - 0 feedback, cash on collection I wasnt holding my breath though.

He came a fair distance. Bought his car with him for me to value. Agreed deal and is calling his bank in th morning.

Is there anything special about your car - either spec or price - that makes it unique? Are there many for sale at the moment?

If it's the only RHD one avaiable in the UK at the moment - then I might understand. But I suspect it's not - which would also make me question the German offer - sight unseen, etc, etc.

Wait until he says 'Oops, I sent you too much, can you just back £xxx...'. Do not believe even cleared funds - banks can still change their mind afterwards. Maybe it is genuine but it smells bad; don't take the risk, there are plenty more buyers out there.

Lots of German buyers at moment picking up cars (usually tasty ones) as the Euro/£ is very heavily in their favour, so don't let that put you off.

Bank transfer made into your account is IRREVERSIBLE after 6 working days. It's the same as a cheque paid into your account these days.

I'd say go with the guranteed money, no matter where it comes from. Just advise your buyer he'll not be picking up the car until after this time has elapsed.

Er, sell it to the guy who won the auction. What sort of answer were you hoping for.

We've all heard of the "Yeah, I'll definitly 'ave it, but I gotta get a bank loan first mate" dream merchants.

If you sell it to dreamer boy you will be the sort of Ebayer we all piss and moan about.

I'd say 24 hours is a reasonable time to get back to someone, after all you've got a pregnant wife to look after havent you?

By that time the guy could have had approval in principal or declined on his bank loan

Drop the German guy an email acknowledging receipt, you're accessing messages on your phone and will get back to him tomorrow when you're at a PC

Give the young guy a chance to get the money together, tell the German the situation & he can buy it if the 1st goes pearshape. Should be win-win for you ( as long as 1 comes up with the cash! )
