They're wanting to build a new football stadium just outside Brighton - opposition of course from the local parish council to it being built on the doorstep of their pretty little village.
When you read the Brighton football fans posting on their chat forum, you can see why the locals don't want them there... quote:

I'm not sticking up for the author of that post and it's hoped he doesn't represent the vast numbers of Brighton &Hove Supporters, but, I can understand some of the frustration that the Brighton fans feel. Back in the 90's the old board IIRC sold the club down the river and let go of the Goldstone ground without securing a new permenent ground first. Since then they've had to settle for a sports ground which in no way satifies the ambition of the supporters or club, restricting growth. From what I've heard and read the local council don't make things easy for the club, and have also given non-league Lewes FC a hard time, constantly placing hurdles in the way of planning permission for both clubs.
Trust me, they get very very upset and very very personal when you dare to suggest that it's not a good place for it. I may have made the point a touch publicly, but you get bombarded with arguments such as 'we've fought for this' etc. Sorry, you've fought for it? Please explain how.

I would take a big pinch of salt with those stories.Guess which slightly larger club now all but 'owns' a slightly smaller local club.......?
Of course, the other side of the story is that a load of organised, most likely middle-class, NIMBYs will have conducted a campaign to stop the club getting a ground anywhere vaguely sensible.
Difference is that the NIMBYs will be the kind of people who have friends on the council and are more 'acceptable' when they're pictured in the local paper.
The club have needed a ground for years now, if they don't get one, it's highly likely a once-great club will disappear - all because people with friends in the right places don't like football.

How mis-informed and ignorant you are.They DO have the money and the construction company take the site on the 17th when building effectively starts. Stadium should be completed in time for the 2009/10 season.
Personally, as a fan of the club, I just want the new stadium built. I don't really care exactly where as long as it's in proximity of Brighton of course. Wherever they build it, there'll be local opposition, same goes for new buildings, roads and so forth, certainly not particular to football stadiums. After a long time, they've finally got a place and at last it's getting built. As for the location, well arguments for/against are long gone now and irrelevant, the powers that be have decided.
As for the "fans" referred to in the OPs original post, of course they're to$$ers but then again there's plenty of them about, football fans or otherwise!
It's amazing the difference a venue makes. If it is brands Hatch, Silverstone, or Castle Coombe, PH is out, calling them nimby's, and decrying them as stick in the muds. However, because it's a sport that isn't much watched on PH, everyone sticks up for the villagers. Bloody hypocrites. Cue posts with no relation at all to the thread. Football is gay, thugs, hooligans, scum chav, etc. Pathetic.

I can't comment on the wealth of the club although Brighton and Hove seem to have a very solid and loyal fan base that could easily expand. From what I've read I get the feeling the proposed ground is being sited in the wrong place - near a rural area with a nature reserve ? perhaps they need to look else where.Never mind, it'll never get built. A football club in a Large town or City can only be beneficial to it's surroundings, what with a good youth acadamey and social structure. After all most of us moan about the youngsters involved in crime yet a good football acadamey with a social structure would help the area. The non-league team I follow has around 30 plus clubs involved in it's youth set-up, both boys and girls. So it could be in the local councils best interest to help B&H Albion in any way they can.

+1 How many parents must there be on PH who enjoy watching their kids play in junior league football ? Sport, any sport should be encouraged to get the best out of the youngsters to add to a more active positive society.

Good luck in getting it done, I just hope we're still in League One when it's finished and I can visit it....

Yep thats on the money. So seeing as it is a football ground there is sudden huge support for NIMBYs on PH well that is a surprise.
Personally i hate football and believe that football fans are mostly knuckle draggers but i am glad they have got permission for their stadium as if it got knocked back then it would be a victory for the killjoys and nimbys

As for it being a "nature reserve", please do some research, it's hardly that. They've had to comply with a lot of local points raised, the stadium is even partially "sunk" into the ground so it doesn't impost too much on the local environment. Anyway, as I say, the discussion for the merits or not of the venue have finished a long time ago, the fact is stadium works begin in just over a week.
As for "knuckle draggers", for sure there are mostly cabbage ear thugs supporting rugby, halford-chavs supporting rallying and so on. Of course there are some thugs etc but Brighton has far better behaved fans than many clubs, there was the fans-united thing a few years ago where many fans from different clubs got together, peacefully, to protest at clubs that get screwed by unscrupulous owners and so forth.
