But its not the engine. Clutch has gone: there is no pressure on the pedal which just goes to the floor. So im thinking hydraulics? The point is will its WH Total warranty pay for the repair plus the recovery to the repair place? If the warranty dosnt pay then its goodnight Vienna for TVR ownership, Im not rich enough!
I dad to be towed home by a 1.1 Fiesta, oh the shame!

Don't know about the recovery (we used our RAC membership to get us recovered), but when our slave cylinder went last June, it was replaced under warranty (WH). The only thing we had to pay for was the release bearing (just under £20), which the dealer suggested was replaced as a precaution, as it wasn't actually broken.... I think it makes a big difference who you use to do the work. We've always used Walldonway, and they seem to have a very good relationship with WH (all our claims have been paid for (broken handbrake pick-ups, headlight black box & wiring loom replaced & slave cylinder replaced)).

GOOD LUCK !!!!

Nick

If it just the hydraulics is there a chance you can do it yourself?

Do you have AA cover? Could you tow it somewhere then pretend it is broken, get recovered to a dealer?

Good luck

I was under the impression that the WH cover came with Green Flag assistance?

If you're going to try and claim on the warranty, don't even think about trying to fix it yourself first. There's no way they'd touch it if you did.

If it's just your master cylinder seals, shouldn't cost more than about GBP35 for parts and 1 hour labour. Check clutch reservoir (should be empty by your description). If it's the clutch master, you're likely to have a good degree of residue running down your clutch pedal.

If it's the slave ... erm ... IIRC, dealer told me that this is 6 hours labour (by the book) plus parts.

Where the seals have perished, parts should be covered by warranty - question remains whether all the labour will be picked up.

However, worst case scenario is that it costs you a phone call !

FWIW - I've repaced both Master and Slave seals in the past 6 months on warranty.

hi ocean1

mine (slave cylinder seals) is getting done under WH warranty at the moment - paying for everything bar the release bearing. However, they cap labour charge rate they will pay so may cost you if you have a particularly expensive dealer doing the work. I go indie so not much of an issue

hope this helps

cheers
sean

PS use your AA/RAC cover for recovery...

Looks like the slave cylinder. Work to be done at Central TVR tommorow, they seem confident that it will be covered under warranty. Also its being transported to Central also under warranty. Result! looks like I can keep it a while longer.

I agree with the comments and the garage. It should be covered under the warranty. Does this therefore mean you're still going to own a TVR Nick? Hope so.

You're running a S6 Cerb on a low budget? I thought I was brave when I bought the NSX a while back and wiped out all my savings to do it (plus a little help from the bank manager!)

Hats off to you, hope it all goes ok!

p.s. Is it worth me buying a warranty on the Cerb i'm about to pick up? 1996 4.2 28k. It seems the warranty holdings guys are ok?

Doubt they'd cover too much on a 96?

Whether the car is a 96 or a 99 if it's over 3 years old and 30K the warranty will be the £1000 per claim limit and should therefore be technicaly identical.

and they will probably cover obvious ancillaries like non wear and tear stuff on clutch and start motor but they wont cover much to do with the engine as they generally wriggle out of that. And £1000 dont cover much if the engine goes. Might cover the labour for a dealer to remove and refit the engine but not much more.

Slave cylinder was the problem - all fixed now and for zero cost. Thanks to Adrian at Central TVR for dealing with WH. I can continue with my Cerb for a while longer.
