Never had a Ford before - ok there was an Escort Twincam and then an RS1600 but that was MANY moons ago. Just speccing my new Focus RS and wondering whether the Premium Satnav - whatever that is - is any good. Any of you guys got views?

Thanks.

Probably similar to what's in my 220, @ £1800 a total rip off, looks pretty and has all the climate control/phone via BT control built in so good from that point of view. The nav side is probably no better than a £80 Navman!

Thanks Dave. Bluetooth (?) for the phone would be handy but other than that as the things going to be my 'Ring toy for next year sounds like it's not worth bothering. I use Nav. a lot, especially on the Continent, and don't like to be without it but if it's rubbish, I might as well get a TomTom or similar. I'll stop being lazy and get the exact spec. from the dealer. Trouble is you never know what the Nav bit is like until you use it.

If its anything like the last "premium" system Ford put into one of the Mondeo's dont expect Ford to ever release any updates / updated maps to it which after a year will make it fairly redundant if you use it regularly wink

For the price of what Ford will probably ask you to pay for their sat nav setup in the new RS you could probably buy a decent aftermarket system from someone like Alpine wink

I'd agree with Dave. Most in car OEM jobbies aren't that great, in fact even the Alpine and Pioneer things seem to have a short life in terms of updates - TomTom is still the best option, just doesn't look as nice....

The Denso system seems to have had updates each year TBH, not cheap though at around £200!!!

Thanks guys. The systems in my most recent BMWs and Porsches have all been excellent (the Aston one - a Volvo unit - was crap) and I'm loathed to be without one but having looked at the Ford unit a bit closer now, I think I'll pass and carry a portable one - TomTom or similar - instead.

I have to disagree. I think the system is really good - and much better than the Audi system which is virtually impossible to get you anywhere other than the end of your drive. Its a Blaupunkt system, and I have been assured I'll get a 2009 update (we'll see) however the system is prone to freezing - actually its the whole touchscreen system, not just the SatNav. Again I've been promised a fix. If you are going to keep the car for ages, then get it as it saves wires and all that fiddly stuff and in my experience is really accurate, good at traffic jams etc etc. However if you're on a budget it is flippin expensive!!!
