Where to live in Brighton?

It looks possible that i'm moving to Brighton next year and wanted to get an idea of the areas to avoid/ the good areas- Ideally somewhere that isn't too expensive, but is relatively quiet, and not a million miles form the city centre.

Queens Park, Hanover, Preston Park, Kemp Town, Roedean anywhere but Hove unless your over 50 then it's Hove or Peacehaven for you

Clifton Rise is a nice place to live. Around Blakers Park is nice too, but probably too far out for you. A problem with Brighton is that the student accommodation market meant money could be made from packing out big houses. I found that moving away from the centre meant less chance of students. When I thought I was going to do another postdoc there, we started looking in Lewes.

Shoreham
Saltdean
Rottingdean (if rich!)
Telscombe
Peacehaven
Seaford is not too far if commuting (as the A27 has had a new railway bridge)

I do not like Woodingdean but it has improved and is very central.

Avoid Whitehawk, Moulsecoomb, Hollingdean and Coldean.

Nowhere is cheap (apart from the areas above).

Depends what you're looking for property wise. Flat? House? Garden? Driveway?
