There is someone on here who modded up a connector so he had an all weather one located next to the front number plate enabling him to leave the car locked whilst charging.

My cigarette lighter is fine tongue out

IMO an external Anderson-type connector wired direct to the battery and tucked up into a front wheel arch, for example, also provides a better and more secure "emergency" entry method than the standard "secret" way in.

I place my accumate on a mate under the bonnet and connect the live lead to the battery and the earth onto the engine (the bleed tap on the 4.2 works well) then lead the plug lead out via the crack between bonnet and wing. This works for me. JUST DON'T DRIVE OFF WITH IT STILL UNDER THE BONNET!!!

If you fix the cigar lighter, open the boot and have some spare fuses ready. From memory it's easy to do (well for me I had small hands) if you take the radio out, but be careful about shorting the connections and blowing the fuse.

On my car it's on the same circuit as the doors/boot locks, hence the comment to have the boot open ready to replace the fuse - just in case.

You are a star. My wife has put her foot down on me using it any more before christmas, cos I is getting it dirty with constant use, and the children are going to get a worn out present smile

I am now on the lookout for a second one, as I have told my wife the children will feel disadvantaged if they don't have one each. Secretly I am planning to have a second for knee to knee racing around the tennis court racetrack I've made smile

You really, really shouldn't have sold me that thing.

That was me then! Bought waterproof covered socket and plug on www.rswww.com.

ETA - links to parts.

Panel mount plug - here

Cable mount socket - here

There should be an "Optional protective cap available separately for panel plugs and sockets when not in use.", but I cannot find it on the site, sorry.

Just purchase the optional battery connector and wire it in permanently. It is a bit of an @rse to connect it to the negative terminal of the battery, so you might not want to bother with that bit.

Not necessary. I connected my negative cable directly to the chassis.

Wide advice - when i fixed my lighter i blew a few fuses, and not all fuses cover the functions as stated in the manual either!
