Intermittent speedo

Hi folks

Last night my speedo started behaving erratically. I don't mean the occasional glitch in the digital display, I'm talking about both the digital and needle dropping to zero and staying there a while before springing back up. As of this morning it's now about 50% working and 50% not.

I'm suspecting (ok, hoping) it's water ingress into a connection or a loose connection. If anyone could give me some pointers on where these might be located so that I can check them then I'd be most grateful!

Its the speedo sensor on the diff, its probably moved slightly..

Mine did exactly the same, shouldn`t take more than a few minutes to fix if you can jack the car up or drop it at a dealer..

The Speedo sensors are suseptable to water, your's may come back to fault-free operation once the roads are dryer. It's the same on the Tuscan and mine did the same at Le Mans 2007 in the horrendous rain. came back to life and lasted a further 12 months before giving up completely.

Quite easy to change yourself but the gap to the toothed wheel on the half-shaft is critical.

The old TVR dealer network can supply one from Multipart at about £120.

Sounds good to me.

I was strongly suspecting water ingress, given the current weather and the fact that I'm doing a lot of motorway miles in it at the moment. Yes, yes, I shouldn't be racking up the miles commuting it it, but I love driving it.

I was hoping that a few well-placed squirts of water-displacing lubricant like electrical switch cleaner or Wet Start might do the trick, but access to such a low car is an issue for me - I have no ramp. And although I do have a single low-profile trolley jack, my driveway is gravel.
