So why aren't they in jail ?

Notice also it came from the Guardian, the Daily Mail and Telegraph reports on Labour MP's fiddling expenses, they report on Tory voters avoiding Tax.

hmmm hardly a great fiddle is it, 17k each, having been through a tax audit myself, and been presented with a bill of a few k, even though I had done everything by the book, my accountant advised me to pay as his fee's for arguing would be more then the tax man was asking for (at the tax inspecter knew this), its just another stealth tax.

Basic rule about the economy - the higher the taxes - the more likely that the black economy will grow.

I am convinced that part of Ireland's success in the 1990s was the massive REDUCTION in business related taxes and a general amnesty given for unpaid taxes up to 1987.

The black economy suddenly coughed up billions.

Labour, of course, are singularly unable to understand this basic fact about how economies work.

and tax rates will therefore shortly be going up for many of these professionals.

For many of these professionals it is not so much a 'scheme' that can be allowed or not it is a matter of interpretation (Hence the high accountancy fees in dealing with an investigation).

The personal use of assets may be challenged, or the accounting estimates used in the accounts.

But I pay a HIGHER proportion of my income in tax than a person on the average salary or even on half the average salary.

You just need to get hit by a car and wake up in your own Life on mars scenario, so that you can glory in the socialist paradise of the 1970s.

I think he's referring to tax that should have been paid but wasn't, and given the deals made, sounds like those that didnt pay it knew it too, besides if your worried about paying a higher share then you could always charge less, earn less and wouldnt have to worry about your tax burden so much, simple

I think the OP has been reading too many tabloids.

The actual story relates to BtL landlords not paying the required tax on their income. It's hardly a surprise that the people who are landlords are in professions that pay well, is it?

Might as well have put up a headline saying "Brickies Caught Red-Handed", as they're just as likely to work for cash in hand and avoid tax.
