I have found an interesting "feature" on the new 500, whereby when your petrol gets low enough for the warning light to come on, the Range goes blank. How absurd! The only time when you actually need the Range and Fiat decides you don’t! That’s my most annoying feature after 8mths of ownership.

Perhaps followed in second place by the leg-amuptatingly strong springs in the doors. i.e. when you open the door, if you just push it open it will bounce back from its full open position back onto you with such vigour its quite dangerous. All other cars I've driven, the door stays open, perhaps wobbling a bit inbetween "half open" and "full open". But the doors on the 500 are not stopped by the "half open" stage and crash back onto you as soon as your leg is out.

What are other owners annoyances?

My Alfa does the "limited range" thing too shortly after the warning light comes on.

I think we may have those that follow petty legal claims for this. Porsche were apparently once sued by a driver because the display said he had 5 miles left and he ran out of fuel.

Fuel light is just a small annoyance. Yeah, it comes on really early, and even when you have "zero" fuel on the gauge you still have 5 litres left.

Really doesn't pay to go down to fumes (at least on the Diesel) - can get a bit coughy.

Really struggle to find anything else that is annoying.

Ah, the Media Player and it's inability to STFU even when you disable Autoplay. But that is nit picking.

Most annoying feature that wins hands down with out any shadow of doubt is the Windoze media player not working with an Apple iPod !!!!!!
What an utterly, utterly pointless waste of an opportunity. ranting

The little cubby hole handle that rubs your left leg is mildly annoying.

Oh, and the fact I look completely gay driving it

Other than that, fantastic little car! thumbup

If it works like the Alfa one, you need to:

With Media Player connected and working...
Ensure Autoplay is off (either by using voice control or through settings menu).
Then (and this is the tricky bit) use voice control and say "Stop".
Hopefully the media player should stop and the tuner should come on.

Remove USB stick, dump contents onto PC, reformat stick, reload contents, insert back into glovebox.

This only works if the media player sees the media as new. The instructions say a change to the playlist is all that's required but I went for a whole rejig and it's worked perfectly ever since. Now when I restart the car I get whatever source was playing when I left it. You have to use voice control to stop and start the media player - which is a pain. I wish you could just press the CD button again or have a separate MP button.

You will not get it to work if you just keep using the same media - it has to be changed!

I believe it works with the iPod, but only with .wav and mp3 files, not with files/songs downloaded via iTunes. But if you put a regular cd on your iPod or mp3 files, those should work.

The media player is a good thing, but it obviously is Windows software, and that doesn't work too well with Apple stuff of course... Blame the popularity of iTunes...

+1 on the door springs!

My biggest annoyance with wifeys car is the lack of steering lock. We have a "hairpin" turn to get in to our driveway and the 500 only just manages to make it if you take care. Other, larger cars can make the turn with ease e.g Skoda Octavia, Mitubishi Galant, Ford Galaxy, et al. The only other car that had difficulty with our drive was my Dads Fiat Coupe so maybe the lack of lock is a Fiat "thing"?

I'll bet you have the 1.4 right? It's a known issue with that engined model, something to do with the 6 speed gearbox.

My Wife's 1.2 seems fine for it's steering.

My only complaint so far (only owned it for a week) is that the accelerator pedal is very high, gives me an achy foot and I've heard of some female owners with small feet struggling to rest their heals on the floor and keep toes on the pedal.

Yep, 1.4 Sport. Thanks, that's interesting.

Huuuummm..................(thinking aloud).....now Dear, this 500, yes the one that has "Abarth" on the side, well "Abarth" means that it has better steering than yours!

Worth a try!!
