Any idea why I get a warning "beep", accompanied with a frost symbol, on the dash of my Mk 5 Golf when the ambient temperature drops below 5 degrees?

Cheers
TS

p.s. It's my first winter with the car.

Alot of cars do this and I think it's just to make you aware that it's cold and the road surfaces may not be upto their usual standard.

I would have thought the ice I've just scraped off the windscreen should have tipped me off. smile

My Mk IV does it too. It indicates to me that the compressor is just about to shut down, and I'll have fully misted windows in a matter of seconds!

Except if you are doing a long trip and are still driving as the temperature drops, you will not notice it as you will be all cosy inside the car, 5 degrees is the temp at which black ice can form on untreated roads.

Wait until it beeps to let you know that you've stalled it / washer fluid is getting low / wants a service / REALLY wants a service.

It should do the low teperature warning but the low washer fluid is normally part of the optional winter pack
