Tyres

Hi all, just looking for some advice, its time to put some new tyres on the 350, I've been looking at going for Avon ZZ3's again, 225/40 R18 on front and 235/40 R18 on rear, can anyone give me any advice if you think there are other tyres which are better and if you think I should go for wider rear tyres on the SP12's? I'm mainly using the car for the road and the odd track day.

I've not used ZZ3s for ages and never on a TVR - I last had them on my old 4th gen Honda Prelude VTEC and hated them.

I used Falken FK452s on my old Chimaera and would rate them very highly, else the usual toyos are good bets or eagle F1s that I have on my 350.

Well, I told a bit of a porky there, I had ZZ3's all round when I bought the car but I put Eagle F1's on the front so I have the F1's on the front and ZZ3's on the rear at the moment, Zippie you think I should go for Eagle's all round?

I've got GDS3 225/35 ZR18 up front and GDS3 235/40 ZR18 at the rear.

Absolutely no idea, just says it on the tyres.

ETA i've just realised your looking for SP12's, mine are on spiders so i don't know if there is a difference?

I run 225/35x18 fronts and 265/35x18 rears on SP12s. Depending on the offset yours have and how they built your car on the day you can use up to 255/265 on the rear. Gearing with 265s is virtually identical to standard 235/40x18. I prefer the look of the Spiders but seem to buckle very easily on our wonderful roads and have seen many pics of accident damaged Tivs with broken wheels. I was looking for more strength, less unsprung weight and the ability to run wider tyres on a 9" rim.

Toyo Proxes T1-R's all round on my Tam, 235/40/18 on the back no problems at all grip well and have a better dry tread pattern as the v grooves don't run all the way to the edges like they did on the T1-S so more rubber in contact with the road.

It's the model series of the tyre but they have been discountinued and you can't get them any more.

On my Tam I have 225/35/18 front & 255/40/18 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric which is the replacment for the GDS3 and a much better tyre.

Don't dismiss these. They are not cheap but you only get what you pay for.

Michelin Pilot Sport.

The cups are a bit hardcore and not fantastic in the wet but they are as good as it gets in the dry for road legals.
