If not Panasonic then what?

Looking for a flat screen TV for the kids. I've got two Panasonic 42" plasmas already and they're great, but possibly still a little pricey for the kids. TBH I'm not sure they'll actually appreciate a really black black

So what other brands are a good compromise between price and performance? I don't want something that looks like Lego characters on screen but I'm not after a total cinematic experience either.

I've got the 42 inch version of that and it's been great so far, basically use it as a big monitor for the PC with occaisional Xbox use.
Got an aerial for it the other day, so I'm trying that out. The picture quality on co-ax is so-so. Maybe it's a tuning issue. All in all though, definetly worth the money.

Just seen Plotters comments re:Samdung; just to say I have no experience with the quality of their products so can't comment!

I picked up a 32" Tosh 32WL66 (LCD) from Der about 2 years ago for £550.

They must have come down in price since....

Very good TV although i'm tempted to move up to a 37" Panasonic/Pioneer Plasma at some point next year.

They're lovely boxes, lovely, they look great, truly great, when they're off.

Samsung specialise in putting poor quality electronics in badly designed chassis and wrapping them in nice looking boxes.

They then give the sheds enormous (comparatively) margins to peddle their filth to the unknowing punter.

Who then spread the message in pubs and on internet forums across the land.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, other brands are more expensive because they are significantly better.

Quick google search suggests that it is the LE32A455C1D but the cost is infact 375 (my hearing must be going). That does include a 5 year warranty!

Interesting and timely thread...

I'm also on the lookout for a bedroom TV up to 32" in size, mainly for SD viewing and XBox 360 play but I would also like to connect my laptop from time to time.

Will be sitting about 3 - 3.5 feet from it for gaming, bit further back for TV.

Having scoured places like AVForums.com for weeks, I'm none the wiser having drowned in a sea of utterly conflicting information.

Any pointers or recommendations you have would be most appreciated !
