New to Site and wanting to build an Ultima, have some ???s
Discussion
Ok I have been looking at building a GTR for some time now even before Top Gear made it famous. I do have a few questions and did not feel like going through all the other topics lol.. Ok here goes-
1- What engine is best, the recommened chevy, or what other engines will fit without having a full fab shop at your disposal? I would like something that would now have a lot of weight to it but still be able to put up the whp that I would like to see. I was thinking of the all aluminium chevy. Also planning on force induction and having a ~8500-9500 rpm redline.(high rod/stroke ratio)
2- Are there any modifications or diff part/components that might yeild better handling and weight balance?
3- The tranny. Is there another comparable tranny to handle lots of torque and hp?
4- Are there any chassis mod that need to be done if 1000 or more hp are reached.
Thanks for any input guys.

OK, I am no expert, I am brand new to this as well but have read LOTS AND LOTS on here .....
1. Easiest engine is all aluminium LSx - cheap, fits and is easy and cheap to tune.
2. Weight balance and handling are excellent already, use the uprated shocks - Intrax or maybe even Ohlins or Penske.
3 & 4 Try this guy's site www.schwartzperformance.com - chassis looks to be fine though, box can be built. Bear in mind how insane 1000BHP is in a car weighing less than a tonne. You will need frequent clean underwear and may benefit from psychiatric assessment :-)

I do not wish to be rude but it may be a good idea for you to go through the search sections as all of your questions will then be answered!!1- What engine is best, the recommened chevy, or what other engines will fit without having a full fab shop at your disposal? Why do you want 1000bhp??? Have you been in a GTR yet if not go and have a ride as 500bhp will scare you!! especially with Mr Marlow driving .... i think its called the test fright!!!
Forced induction and 8-9000rpm that should interesting!!! but why
LOL lots of knicker will be needed. The main reason for the large HP is that I want to enter the Texas Mile, if you haven't heard of it, it is a run to see if your car can break the 200mph in a mile. If I can't get 1000hp that is cool with me, cause believe me I know what its like to have a light weight car with a good HP/weight ratio. I now have a Honda Integra turbocharged with a T40E in (stock format, 10psi, Dyno'd @282.5 whp) and I got it up to 160mph on the interstate and that was white knuckleing.
I was also thinking of the LSX block, you can't beat the strong mains and the light weight. Does anyone know where I could get ahold of two Borg VGT turbochargers for the build? I want to price them.

T4: Wow big fellow, slow down, go back and read the last years worth of blogs. there are a lot of serious people on this site that have been into this sport for 40 plus years. When you get the reading done, then talk to Jeff Schwartz about whats possible with a LS motor. As the man above said 500 hp in one of these cars is a certified bullet. Just trying to get you to open your eyes a little. Lee
Jeff Schwatrz's car (alien) has already cracked 200mph in a standing mile so it can be done but believe me, an Integra is NOTHING like an Ultima.
My daily driver is 552ft lbs torque - I thought it was quick until Ted Marlow took me out on the test fright. The Ultima made my car look like it was going backwards and mine is a LOT more powerful than the Integra.
Some serious research would help - even with a 400BHP LS2 engine, you are talking approximately 3.3 to 60 and approximately 180mph. To go to 1000BHP is MASSIVELY more expensive and will require a large dollop of driving skill not to hurt yourself. If you have the cash to throw at it, fair play to you, go for it - BUT why not do the research first, work out what it will cost, what it will give you and whether it is viable for you ??

I too think forced induction will be the best route to achieve your goal, 8-9000rpm really wont be needed. 7-7500 max should sort the job..... and the drive home too!
Jeff S and several others have done this with success.
The 'engine section' on the ÚS site 'speedtalk' should find your local suppliers.
Good luck.

hmmm, no disrespect but really think you need to experience a 500bhp Ultima before you decided you want 1000bhp.... 650-700bhp is on the verge of reason in these cars.
Remember this is a 1000kgs car... so thats 500bhp per ton.
A ferrari 360 is only about 260bhp per ton!... and a veyron is only 500bhp per ton!
Also IMO an Ultima would be lethal with 1000bhp... if I really decided I HAD to have one with that power I would be redeveloping a huge amount of the car at massive cost.

Wow! thanks for the website. Oh and by the way just to let anyone know I am not some 18yr kid lol. thought that the Integra might make it seem that way. Almost 30yo, 6yr as a diesel mechanic in US Army, graduated from Wyotech with a certification in Chassis fab and engine building worked with a friend, Danny Blankinship, that runs in the Quick 8 outlaws class, then worked at an Acura/porsche dealership as a cert tech. Have driven a couple of GT3s and one Enzo(with the owner in it). I did the Integra mostly out of a bet, some mustang a hole said it was a piece of crap daily driver. Do you guys know anyone that has built an Ultima in South Carolina?
Thanks for all the help guys Now that I think about it yeah the 7k to 7.5k is more realistic.

Nobody is doubting your skills or ability its just that a couple times a month we have people come on here saying they want to build an Ultima with 6000000 BHp and it becomes a little frustrating when most of these people have never been in an Ultima!!
An Enzo has little in comparison to an Ultima, yes its very quick but there is quick and then there is Ultima quick. Anyway good luck.

Definitely, definitely, definitely, talk to Jeff. He's a very decent, knowledgeable and welcoming chap with a 1000bhp twin turbo Ultima he uses in the Silverstate classic just like the one you want to build.

not...
no but they are not comparable!!
On no they aren't !no but they are not comparable!!
I had the chance to drive an Enzo (and a Koenigsegg too).
They are fast cars, great acceleration but definitely not the same feeling
than an Ultima could offer. Especially in cornering and braking.
They are super-cars when Ultima is almost a race car.
