My local Jaguar franchise, Lancaster of Reading, emailed me today to offer me a one-off chance to buy a new Jag at "corporate terms", ie at up to £15k off list price.

If you don't mind spending the money+have it AND don't mind the value only going one way, WHY NOT biggrin

I would need to negotiate at least another £5k off, then I'd be tempted.

I assume there are good deals out there on all new cars at the moment. Must be playing havoc with pre-owned prices...

Juat have a look through Autotrader or the Jaguar Approved used site to see whats happened to the value of second hand Jaguars over the last 12 months or so - won't be long before you realise values have dropped through the floor.

Certainly buying a secondhand one now is really affordable and with the recent fall in the price of fuel and the postponement of the road tax increases makes it even more so.

Spend a few grand on a good example, do a modest mileage and take care of it and your overall running costs - including depreciation which is the real killer - per year will be lower than buying and running a new Toyota Pious...I'm sure the Ecomentalists will love that biggrin

Lancaster are one of the biggest Jaguar dealers in the world if not the biggest. They have access to cars from Jaguar at very good prices. If I were you I would decide on the car of your dreams and buy it now.

People are saying wait till the spring it will be worse. Maybe. For my money they are trying to unload stock now. They may sell it below production cost to reduce their inventory while they are desperately looking for ways to cut overheads. This will only go on so long. They will not manufacture below production cost for any length of time, they will shut down production.

Talk to them buddy. Pre-owned prices are for worrying about when you want to sell. Buy the right thing, keep it, and the cost over time becomes insignificant.

I have to make an appointment to go and talk to them to find that out. But I assume that's against their top-priced car.
